**Job Description**
This position is for an experienced Focal Plane Subsystem Project Engineer and will report to the Detectors group of the Payload Engineering department within the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit of BAE Systems Space and Missions Systems (SMS).

**What You ll Do:**
+ Project Engineer: Lead a cross-functional team of engineers to design and build innovative focal plane subsystems for high-speed video, LIDAR, and scientific space-based applications. Develop and oversee electro-optical (EO) focal plane architectures for a broad range of applications, including ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared, short-wave infrared, mid-wave infrared, and long-wave infrared subsystems.
+ Program Management: Plan and execute the focal plane subsystem program, ensuring alignment with budgetary and schedule constraints. Provide regular, data-driven insights on cost and schedule status to stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making and proactive risk management.
+ Financial Leadership: Apply Earned Value Management principles to drive budget development, cost tracking, variance analysis, forecasting, and reporting. Lead efforts to monitor and control project financial performance, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and project timelines.
+ Proposal Development: Leverage engineering expertise to support proposal development, crafting compelling scope, cost, and schedule aspects of focal plane subsystem efforts. Play a key role in generating competitive proposals that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
+ Supplier Management: Oversee detector procurement and major subcontract activities, including statement of work and specification development. Provide technical management of subcontracts, including evaluations, negotiations, and execution throughout the subcontract lifecycle.
+ Collaboration and Communication: Foster a collaborative environment with internal teams, external suppliers, and customers. Support coordination efforts for program, design, and peer reviews, ensuring effective communication and alignment across the program lifecycle.
+ Growth and Development: Demonstrate a passion for continuous learning and development, while actively mentoring junior engineers and promoting a growth-oriented environment within the team.
+ Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
+ Perform other duties as necessary.
**On-Site Work Environment:** This position requires regular in-person engagement by working **on-site five days** each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
**Working Conditions:**
+ Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
+ May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
+ May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ BS in Engineering or other related technical field plus 8 or more years related experience.
+ Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of visible, NIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR detector systems.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of micro-electronics packaging of detectors.
+ Experience leading an engineering team (12 - 30 people) on electro-optics projects.
+ Experience reporting program status and developing resource-loaded schedules.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (such as Project, Excel, Outlook, and Word)

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Degree(s) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Thermal Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering are preferred.
+ Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
+ Certified as Cost Account Manager.
+ A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is preferred.
**Pay Information**
Full-Time Salary Range: $132962 - $226035

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
