Project Engineer II

The Research and Technology Center at U. S. Steel has an immediate opening for a Project Manager in the Product Development Group. The purpose of this job is to oversee the development of new and modified material grades for commercial application from ideation to commercialization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for product development execution, including product launch. Lead teams to execute each project. Identify timeline risks, and escalate roadblocks as needed.Oversee, monitor risk and check every phase of the project from start to completion.Assure full cost transparency in context of product requirements and constraintsCoordinate and drive cross-functional team alignment and engaging their commitment to assist them to deliver on time and high quality.Engages organizational experts for specialized expertise Delegating tasks to the engineers and professionals on the cross-functional team.Quickly resolves disputes (roadblocks) between staff/team.Leads problem solving discussionsSupports manufacturing production issue resolution. Drive performance development through well-organized and transparent communication.EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Bachelor’s degree required, concentration in Engineering, Materials Science, Business or Project Management or equivalent field is preferred.Must have 2+ year experience of direct project or product management. Exposure or working knowledge in manufacturing and/or steel industry is desired.Qualified candidate will be detail oriented with exceptional attention to quality and will possess excellent analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teamsQualified candidate will demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills as well as above average computer skills Capable of handling multiple work assignments with minimal supervision. The candidate must be self-directed and must learn to solve problems using their own initiative.WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Clean and well-organized professional work environment. Occasional work in operating facilities that produce steel products. Occasional lifting of samples and equipment weighing up to 40 lb.
