Description
Actalent's client is a small engineering design consulting company that works within the field of industrial projects as well as specialty commercial project development. The Project Engineer (PE) serves as technical lead for the delivery of projects. It is the PE’s responsibility to act as liaison between the Client, Project Manager (PM) and Engineering Teams by identifying Client needs and requirements, developing design scopes and communicating this scope to Engineering Team’s through Internal Work Orders (IWO). The PE is also responsible for tracking progress of project execution and managing project budgets and timelines. The PE works to identify and document gaps and/or changes in scope and develops service agreements to communicate change to Clients, as well as identifying and pursuing new opportunities..
Daily tasks:
Functions as multi-disciplinary interface and lead for execution of projects. - Identifies, assesses, communicates, and provides solutions for the mitigation of project risks with other internal team members
Maintains company SOPs, makes recommendations and suggestion for process/procedural improvements, and works towards overall improvement of departmental procedures and workflow.
Coordinates sales pipeline timelines and deliverables between departments (sales, design, construction)
Management of Client and other stakeholder expectations
Development and justification of Service Agreement addendums to clients
Champions projects by providing deliverables on time and on budget as per project contract.
Identifies and documents gaps, changes in scope
Identifies potential issues and conflicts as they arise and discloses them in a timely manner to the Project Manager and Client
Is able to identify Client needs and values (on a per project basis) and tailor the project deliverables and outcomes so that they are in alignment.
Assigns internal deadlines and budgets (based on contract budgets) for project or project sub-tasks to Design Engineer’s and/or Sub-Consultants.
Manages scope, budget, and deliverables of Sub-Consultant’s, and sub-contractor respectively
Produces official Meeting Minutes and tracks status and completion of action items in an Engineering Status Reports for projects
Delivers submittals to Project Manager for secondary check and final approvals.
Chairs Project Kick-off Meetings.
Scope Definition & Design Criteria for various disciplines
Develops reports and memoranda for communicating summaries of analysis, design decisions, disclaimers, and recommendations.
Conducts primary check of models, drawings, and submission packages.
Conducts site visits and measurements as required per project and as per budget.
Handles design complications brought up by Client and/or Design Engineer, MAKES DESIGN DECISIONS and brings to attention of Project Manager.
Develops concept designs and takes the role of Design Engineer as needed.
Seals and certifies documents and functions as Engineer of Record on technical work performed by, and or carried out by personnel under his direct review and supervision.
Leads in the development of Engineering Feasibility and/or Project Definition Reports, including cost estimation, scope development and concept design.
Skills & Qualifications
MUST HAVE:
4+ years experience in various industries such as ports/terminals/mining/food/pharma
P.Eng in BC
4+ years background in mechanical
3-4 years experience in a small EPC/EPCM or engineering/PM company environment
Worked on 1-2 large scale projects ($10M-$50M) or 5-10 small projects ($5M-$10M) in TIC - more about culture fit and agility rather than size of project.
Experience of coordination with multi disciplinary teams through all phases of the project lifecycle

Oil & gas experience
Field Experience
If Process or Chemical background then strong preference for PM
Architectural with industrial plant experience
Change management
Will consider overseas experience but would prefer 1-2 years in Canada
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
