Job Description

Position Overview:

In this role, you will provide technical leadership for analysis, design, development and testing of power conversion hardware for industrial motor drives. You will architect the design and develop specifications based on product requirements. You will lead the development of proof-of-concept hardware, laboratory tests, and qualification and certification testing of the product. You will lead project planning activity for the SAFe Agile frame work, task scheduling, and resource management, and own product cost. You will also participate in technology and product roadmap development, and conduct research to qualify new technology for adoption in future products. Lead the Mechanical Design Global Process team for Low Voltage drives.

You will report to the Manager, Mechanical Engineering.

Your Responsibilities:Application of electro-mechanical systems design principles to lead the design/development of power hardware for AC/DC motor drives – Design of enclosures of sheet metal injection molded plastic, bonded fin and aluminum extruded heatsink , magnetics, wire harness, bus barApplication of simulation tools for thermal and mechanical modeling, design and troubleshooting of complex mechanical and thermal, systems and applications.Must follow and ensure safe work practices when working with high voltage power hardwareDemonstrate excellent technical, oral and written communication skills, and work effectively in a team environment. Lead project during SAFe planning, resource management, and assume responsibility for timely completion of tasksParticipate in analysis and troubleshooting of complex issues and identify root cause failure modes. Responsible for making technical presentations to internal and external customersStay up to date with technological advancements in power electronics, components, design and simulation tools, and application trends. Participate in technology investigation projects to make enhancements to future product designFollow technology roadmaps of critical custom component vendors (heatsinks, sheet metal, plastics, semi-conductors, magnetics, capacitors) and lead working relationshipsUnderstand and apply regulatory and certification standards that govern current product design and emerging applications. Participate in regulatory standards committees and stay up to date on trends that impact product design and qualificationContribute to driving improvements to design process and developing design guidelinesApply DFSS principles for concept selection and robust design and lead in the application of GD&TFollow company and business policies and procedures, such as the Common Product Development processUse enterprise tools such as SAP, Windchill, Creo, Jira and Jama

The Essentials - You Will Have:Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:Typically requires 8+ years related experienceDegree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Power ElectronicsProficiency with UL, CSA and CE standards applicable to AC drive design (e.g. UL/IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61800-3)Proficiency with the use and application of 3D modeling and simulation tools such as Creo Parametric and Ansys thermal and structuralExperience with working on a cross-functional team with electrical engineers and demonstrate design challenges that were solved and howProficiency with power converter topologies for DC and AC motor drives – non-regenerative and regenerative rectifiers, inverters, switch-mode power suppliesProficiency with the use of measurement tools and techniques for proper application of GD&T forExperience with high voltage printed circuit board design requirements from a mechanical perspectiveExperience with electrical power systems design and considerations needed to solve design requirementsDemonstrated application of Design for Six Sigma principles with Greenbelt certification or higherProficient with Design and simulation of power converter and motor drive systems. Experience with 3D modeling of designs and finite-element simulation tools and applicationProficient and experienced in the proper application of GD&T and Tolerance stack analysisExperience with failure modes and troubleshooting subsystems and components of AC drivesExperience working with Product managers and or Business leaders on product requirements and the business infrastructure of a product developmentExperience with application mechanical issues with AC drives including thermal and mechanical structure designFamiliar with magnetics design, materials technology, and specificationProficiency with UL, CSA and CE standards and application to AC drives design (Enclosure certifications, functional safety, EMC, energy efficiency) for design and qualification testing. Working knowledge of standards for grid-tie inverters and emerging applications like battery chargers
