We are seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join our Cambridge, ON team!

The Project Coordinator works to support the efficient planning and execution of projects with a flexible skillset covering various elements of Project Management. The Project Coordinator is responsible for
planning and estimating the project, including all required resources and materials to do the work, consistent with project scope, commercial requirements, customer needs, and business requirements.  Once a job is won, they take primary responsibility for cost management and reporting, and project status  reporting (cost and schedule status, Key Performance Indicators [KPIs].  This position reports to the Project Controls Manager and has no direct reports. It involves supporting the organization, collection, and dissemination of project and portfolio performance data to enable internal teams and external stakeholders—through delegated responsibilities—to effectively execute projects within contractual constraints. External communication is limited and typically occurs through delegation from Project Managers. 

Accountabilities

Cost Management

Decompose project budget into appropriate levels of task code for cost tracking and reporting. Prepare baseline budgets to support the as-sold work. Prepare periodic project cost reports (Earned Value analysis) to support the commercial reporting requirements of the project (e.g. monthly cost reviews, contractual customer cost reports, etc.). Maintain objective view on actual project costs, estimated values to complete, earned value and project productivity with the goal of providing line of sight to actual cost performance (past and forecasted) over the life of the project. Commercial change management is an integral part of the responsibility for management of project costs and forecasts. Prepare forward-looking analysis of project-status, productivity, etc. with ability to forecast future issues based on trends, risks, and current issues. Involvement in other commercial exercises and reports such as customer invoicing, vendor purchase orders and invoices, business-level cost reports and analysis (monthly, quarterly cost reviews), business-level forecasting.

Project Reporting

Develop and maintain periodic project reports (both internal and customer-facing), that accurately reflects the project status as it pertains to cost, schedule, and project/team performance, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and key project metrics. Take in various information and reports from around the business as it pertains to project performance (e.g. field status reports, vendor schedules or progress reports), and reflect the status accurately in the associated project report. Support Project Managers in the regular reporting cycles of monthly cost reviews, contractual customer reporting, etc. Generate related reports as needed to support resource planning, financial forecasting

Proposal Estimating

Develop labour hour estimates based on information provided from various sources, including customer specifications, engineering packages, historical returns, department inputs, etc. Integrate non-labour costs into the comprehensive estimate, including such items as materials, equipment, consumables, etc. Work with operating groups to review scope and identify and define all cost estimate elements. Provide commercial support to proposals, including proposal pricing, sell price analysis, cash flows, etc.

Knowledge & Experience

Completion of post-secondary education in a field like, engineering, mathematics, or business. Demonstratable understanding of scheduling practices and concepts. Demonstratable understanding of project management fundamentals like, scheduling, earnedvalue management, budget controls, and change management. Demonstratable understanding of cost estimation techniques. Demonstratable understanding of accounting concepts such as revenue recognition, cash flow analysis, cash exposure, cost of money, NPV calculation. Demonstratable strength in organizing, and presenting large and diverse data sets. Demonstratable experience with visual analytic software. Professional competency of English, in written and verbal forms. Desired Characteristics:
• 5-10 years of related industry experience;
• Experience in the nuclear energy production industry;
• High level of competency with Oracle Primavera P6;
• High level of competency with Microsoft Excel;
• Project Management Professional certification.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $73,000 and $106,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
