Job Title: Project Accountant

Job Description

The Project Accountant II supports the full financial lifecycle of multiple projects, ensuring accurate accounting, contract compliance, and strong project financial performance. This role partners closely with Project Managers and operational teams to manage budgets, invoicing, reporting, and financial administration in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with experience in engineering, construction, or architecture projects who enjoys collaborating across teams while working independently.

Responsibilities

Manage the full project accounting lifecycle, including contract setup, budget tracking, invoicing, and financial reporting for multiple projects.Prepare accurate client invoices, ensure proper supporting documentation, and assist with collections activities to monitor and reduce outstanding accounts receivable.Maintain and monitor project budgets, review cost data and earned value information, and support forecasting and project closeout activities.Ensure accurate contract documentation, compliance with contract terms, and effective financial administration throughout the project lifecycle.Assist with coding and processing accounts payable, including vendor invoices, subconsultant invoices, and related payments.Process and review timesheets and employee expense reports to ensure proper coding, accuracy, and compliance with company policies.Perform general ledger activities such as journal entries and reconciliations as they relate to project accounting and month-end close.Collaborate with Project Managers and internal stakeholders to provide financial insight, explain variances, and resolve project-related financial issues.Participate in regular project reviews and support continuous financial monitoring across multiple active projects.Support month-end processes related to project accounting, including reconciliations, reporting, and analysis.Handle confidential financial information with discretion and maintain high standards of accuracy and integrity in all financial records.

Essential Skills

2–5+ years of project accounting experience. engineering, construction, or architecture Industry Experience Experience managing project budgeting, invoicing, and contract administration.Familiarity with earned value management and cost tracking.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting.Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end processes.Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with Project Managers and internal teams.Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.Experience supporting project reviews and financial monitoring across multiple initiatives.Comfort working both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.Ability to identify financial issues proactively and contribute to process improvements.Commitment to accountability, quality, and ethical decision-making.Interest in working for an organization with a positive impact on communities and the environment.Appreciation for a collaborative, inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives and professional growth.Interest in long-term career development and learning opportunities.

Work Environment

This is an in-office role in a cubicle-based setting that fosters a family-like environment where team members actively support one another. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A laptop is provided for work use. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
