Job Title: Project Accounting Specialist (Lower Manhattan)

Job Description

The Project Accounting Specialist will oversee the financial lifecycle of active engagements, ensuring cost monitoring, margin tracking, and efficient client billing. This role involves supporting financial governance, maintaining sound controls, and coordinating with third-party reviewers. The specialist will handle core accounting functions related to ledger activity, transactional entries, and ensure balance sheet accuracy while also monitoring short-term liquidity needs.

Responsibilities

Oversee the financial lifecycle of active engagements, including cost monitoring, margin tracking, and client billings.Assist with planning activities tied to annual financial targets, including forward-looking revenue projections.Support financial governance by maintaining sound controls and aligning with accounting standards.Coordinate with third-party reviewers as needed.Handle core accounting functions related to ledger activity, transactional entries, and balance sheet accuracy.Monitor short-term liquidity needs and oversee day-to-day cash positioning.

Essential Skills

4-6 years of project accounting experience.Experience with Deltek software.Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, or Construction industry.Proficiency in general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, data entry, month-end processes, bank reconciliation, and Microsoft Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in setting up projects in accounting systems on a percentage completion basis, time & material (T&E), and tracking client-approved fees.Experience with monthly client billing, using Ajera accounting system, E-Builder, PMWEB, SCA portal, and Passport preferred.Supervisory experience and proven management abilities.Ability to perform financial analysis, create reports, and prepare internal financial statements.Expertise in bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliations, and account reconciliations.Experience with the financial closing process.Ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and the architecture team.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Work Environment

The role includes a 90-day orientation period with 5 days onsite. After the orientation, the position allows for 2 days of work-from-home, with Wednesdays required to be in-person. This offers an opportunity to gain experience in multiple functions beyond project accounting, including GL accounting, payroll, and retirement.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
