Project Accountant
Job Summary
System One is partnering with a client seeking for a Project Accountant who will ensure accurate real-time tracking of job cost expenditures, billing, and compliance with contract terms. This role is responsible for project setup through closeout, financial analysis, reporting, and collections, while proactively identifying budget variances and potential overruns.
Key Responsibilities
Review contracts, set up projects in ERP, and manage project payables, receivables, and timesheets.
Reconcile vendor invoices, purchase requests, and prepare correcting/reclass journal entries as needed.
Maintain billing rate schedules, contracts, change orders, and project records.
Drive month-end job cost forecasting and revenue recognition using Percent-Complete Method (PCM).
Provide project managers with financial analysis and cost-to-budget reporting.
Generate and review job cost reports, analyze variances, and recommend improvements.
Oversee AR including posting payments, reconciling accounts, and assisting with collections.
Support AP by routing invoices for approval and resolving discrepancies.
Participate in weekly project meetings to address timesheet, expense, and budget variances.
Contribute to internal control improvements and shared services initiatives.
Lead or assist in change management and legal documentation as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in project or contract accounting.
Knowledge of GAAP and Federal Contract accounting principles.
Strong skills in job costing, forecasting, reconciling project billings, revenue, costs, and work-in-progress (WIP) with the General Ledger on a monthly basis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel; ERP/Accounting systems experience preferred (Viewpoint, Unanet, Sage, Acumatica, Foundation, RAS).
