Project Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our team in Lincoln, Nebraska. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in managing project finances, ensuring compliance, and supporting project managers with accurate financial reporting. This position offers an excellent opportunity to utilize your expertise in construction accounting and project auditing while collaborating with various departments. Responsibilities: • Review customer contracts to identify billing requirements, lien waivers, and other financial obligations. • Set up and maintain job details in the accounting system, including cost estimates, billing templates, contracts, and change orders. • Monitor project budgets, commitments, and expenses to ensure accurate cost coding. • Collaborate with project managers and billing specialists to prepare and finalize customer invoices. • Ensure accuracy in labor rates, rentals, and markups for all customer billing documentation. • Provide support to project managers on job cost-related tasks and financial reporting. • Analyze project financial data and deliver actionable insights to project managers and senior leadership. • Conduct audits on project financials to ensure compliance and accuracy. • Review subcontractor invoices and supporting documentation, recommending approval or rejection to project managers. • Coordinate with accounts payable to ensure timely payments to subcontractors and verify compliance with insurance, licensing, and contract documentation. Requirements • Proven experience in month-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations. • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and bank reconciliations. • Familiarity with construction accounting principles and practices. • Expertise in managing project budgets and job costing. • Ability to conduct thorough project audits and financial analyses. • Proficiency in setting up and maintaining accounting systems for project-related activities. • Solid understanding of sales and use tax rules and their application to project costs. • Exceptional organizational and communication skills to work effectively across departments.
