Project Accountant
Job Title: Project AccountantJob Description We are looking for an experienced Project Accountant who is skilled in independently handling client billing, monitoring collections, and overseeing project budgets. The role involves providing backup support for accounts payable tasks, including coding and processing timesheets and expense reports. The successful candidate will maintain accurate contract records, collaborate with project teams to deliver timely financial insights, and resolve any contract-related financial concerns. Additionally, they will ensure departmental project accounting systems align with contractual obligations and compliance standards. The position offers daily support to multiple project managers and team members and assists with project initiation documentation. The role requires organizing and scheduling project-related meetings, reviewing, and interpreting both client and internal contracts, and demonstrating strong expertise in project accounting and invoicing. Responsibilities + Independently handle client billing and monitor collections. + Oversee project budgets and provide backup support for accounts payable tasks. + Maintain accurate contract records, including fee structures and budget entries. + Collaborate with project teams to deliver timely financial insights and resolve contract-related financial concerns. + Ensure departmental project accounting systems align with contractual obligations and compliance standards. + Offer daily support to multiple project managers and team members. + Assist with the preparation of project initiation documentation. + Organize and schedule project-related meetings. + Review and interpret both client and internal contracts. + Demonstrate strong expertise in project accounting and invoicing. + Guide and support junior project accountants as needed. + Perform additional duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Associate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Minimum of five years of relevant experience. + Familiarity with Earned Value Management principles. + Excellent communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and proofreading. + Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. + Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven. + Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information. + Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Outlook. + A proactive mindset and commitment to contributing to a collaborative culture. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred. + Experience in leading or mentoring financial professionals is a plus. + Strong understanding of prime contract terms and ability to manage and fulfill contractual obligations effectively. + Experience in drafting subcontracts and tracking deliverables. + Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups). + Comfortable navigating multiple systems/portals, including Oracle. + Industry experience in Architecture/Design is highly preferred. Work Environment The role is based in a corporate office in Irvine, situated in a two-story building with an open concept and management offices. The project accountant will work on the second floor with great views. The position starts fully onsite, with the possibility to earn up to two remote days once established.
