Program Manager - Gene Kids

Job Description:

The Gene Kids Project Manager will lead the full operational and strategic execution of the Gene Kids clinical research program at Primary Children’s Hospital. This role is responsible for managing complex workflows across clinical implementation, research coordination, stakeholder engagement, and compliance. The manager will work closely with genetic counselors, physicians, data analysts, study coordinators and outreach teams to ensure seamless integration of whole genome sequencing (WGS) into pediatric care and meet the clearly defined aims of Gene Kids. This position requires strong leadership, organizational agility, and the ability to manage multiple teams and evolving priorities.

Job Essentials:
 

Program Oversight & Strategic Execution

Lead the full scope of Gene Kids operations, including clinical, research, and administrative domains Translate strategic goals into actionable plans aligned with the Center for Personalized Medicine Ensure alignment with institutional priorities and regulatory requirements.

Team & Stakeholder Management

Manage and coordinate across existing workgroups at Intermountain Health and University of Utah.Supervise and support genetic counselors and clinical study coordinators involved in patient consent, data collection, and return of results.Facilitate collaboration between University of Utah and Intermountain Health teams.

 Clinical Research Operations

Oversee patient recruitment, enrollment, and consent workflows across multiple hospital sites and outreach initiatives.Support contracting and vendor management processes for new agreements, amendments, and renewals.Monitor and improve bioinformatics pipeline validation and clinical implementation timelines.Partner with subspecialty providers to increase enrollment across Primary Children's Hospital.Partner with the Gene Kids Outreach Team and community providers to improve access to genetic testing

Data & Workflow Management

Lead efforts in data auditing, reporting, and workflow optimization using Epic and other systems.Partner with analysts and IT teams to ensure accurate data capture and reporting for research integrity.Develop a comprehensive understanding of the bioinformatic tools used in Gene Kids to promote strategic growth.

 Budget & Resource Planning

Collaborate on budget forecasting, FTE planning, and grant alignment.Track and report expenses, payroll, and vendor costs for year-end reviews and grant compliance.

Outreach & Equity

Support outreach efforts to underserved and minority communities across the Intermountain West.Ensure equitable access to WGS services and uphold patient empowerment through lifelong data ownership.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.Project management and/or program coordination experience.Demonstrated expertise in project program and program coordination.Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management.Demonstrated experience with managing a third party.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in genetics, genomics, personalized medicine, or research operations.Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Research Operations or a related field.Five (5) years of project management and/or program coordination experience.Two (2) years of healthcare experience with at least 1 year in management of projects and people, with track record of success.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Experience using computers for a variety of tasks.Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements:

Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move finders and hands.See and read computer monitors and documents.Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$38.55 - $59.49
