This position serves as the statewide Behavioral Health Director providing administrative and clinical oversight for all mental/behavioral health and substance use programs within state prison institutions. The position will also provide behavioral health expertise and review of services for contracted behavioral health services with local jails and private prisons. Why work for DOC? Minimum Qualifications Eight years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services; OR Six years of work experience in any field plus five years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services; OR A baccalaureate degree plus five years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services; OR An advanced degree in a social science field, public health, counseling, social work, rehabilitation services, business, public, or health administration, or Juris Doctorate plus four years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Provides program oversight for the Louisiana Department of Corrections behavioral health services at all state penal institutions identifying and implementing evidence-based practices. 2. Develops and tracks annual departmental goals. Reviews budgets and service delivery/expansion for program grants. Approves all grant funded purchases. 3. Works with State Prisons, Local Jails, Private Jails, Probation and Parole, The Probation and Parole Board, the Office of Behavioral Health, Judges, District Attorneys, community service providers, LGEs and other relevant agencies and officials to ensure quality of service, dissemination of information, smooth offender transfer between systems, and a cooperative effort to obtain the best possible outcomes for offenders. 4. Creates statewide policies, regulations and clinical practice regarding Mental/Behavioral Services and Substance Use programming based on changes in population need, accreditation, legislation, industry standard, and best practice evolution. 5. Reviews proposed state legislation and potential impact on departmental behavioral health programs and/or funding within the Department. Effects necessary changes based on passed legislation that will impact the department.
