Program Engineer - Naval Architect - Nova Scotia
Position Summary
Thales Canada is looking for a Naval Architect to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.
The AJISS Program Engineer – Naval Architect role will provide Engineering Services in support of the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and Joint Support Ships (JSS) homeported in Halifax Nova Scotia. Engineering services include conducting surveys, technical investigations, researching ship staff queries, developing repair specifications and job instructions for preventive or corrective maintenance as well as developing and overseeing test and trials.
The successful candidate will leverage their existing knowledge of work package management and expertise in structural and marine system design to become a key contributor and technical lead within the AJISS East Coast Team

Key Areas of Responsibility
The AJISS Program Engineer – Naval Architect will report to the Engineering Services Lead and liaise with the Service Delivery group to provide timely support with Defects resolution.
Assigned tasks are to be completed in accordance with Thales’s quality and commercial guidelines, contracted time and cost requirements. This includes but is not limited to performing the following:
Provide directions on way forward during Corrective Maintenance;Conduct technical investigation into problems associated with structure, equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development;Prepare documented work scopes associated with Defect investigation/resolution, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers;Develop and/or approve technical Job Instructions;Managing (planning, organizing, leading and controlling) the work by coordinating with other Thales staff (Mechanical, Electrical, C4 and Naval Architecture staff) and/or Subcontractors to achieve the agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities;Support the rest of the Engineering group (Coastal and Central);Supporting Preventive Maintenance Plan improvements;Provision of technical advice to enable structure, systems and equipment to be correctly operated or maintained;Analysis of requirements associated with baseline changes to product;Support Engineering Team from Ottawa for Engineering Change process;Contribute to detailed engineering tasks, including:Problem Investigation;Requirements analysis;Design calculations;Support Obsolescence assessments;Performance improvement investigations;Material compatibility investigation;Review of equipment/system maintenance documentation;Failure analysis; andRisk and hazard assessmentsMinimum Requirements
An Engineering degree in naval architecture;.Minimum of 4 years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience;Strong technical knowledge with ability to make technical decision;Preferred Qualifications
Eligible for P Eng designation in Nova ScotiaPrevious experience working with a defense contractor or the Canadian Armed Forces.Experience supporting an operational military asset.Above average Microsoft Windows application experience, communications and interpersonal skills are required for this position.Physical Demands
Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships;Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting;Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided);Special Position Requirements
Schedule: 40 hours per weekWork Location: Hybrid: Will be required to work from the Halifax dockyard (about 50% of the time) and home/Thales office in Burnside (50%);Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships or the AJISS Enterprise;The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $74,000– $100,000 -$124,000 CAD Annual.
