The Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center is seeking an organized, relationship-driven Program Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of the Women’s Center’s mentoring programs. This position plays a key role in connecting the University with local schools, students, and families, and will work closely with undergraduate mentors and interns to ensure meaningful, well-run programming.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator will support the Young Women Leaders Program (YWLP), the Men’s Leadership Project (MLP), and college readiness workshops for high school students. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people, values community engagement, and thrives in a team-oriented environment. The Coordinator will report to the Program Director for Mentoring & Community Engagement and be a part of the Women’s Center’s Engaged Scholarship portfolio.
Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Logistics
Manage day-to-day operations for YWLP, MLP, and college readiness programs, including scheduling, communications, supplies, and transportation logistics
Help coordinate mentor-mentee events and program sessions both on-Grounds and in the community
Track attendance, participation, and feedback; assist with data entry and program documentation
School & Family Liaison
Serve as a key point of contact for school staff, families, and community partners
Communicate program details, schedules, and updates to parents and school personnel
Support positive, responsive relationships between UVA and the broader Charlottesville/Albemarle County community
Student Support & Engagement
Build strong working relationships with undergraduate student mentors and interns
Assist with training, check-ins, and reflection opportunities for students in the program
Offer guidance and support as students navigate mentoring roles and community work
Teaching & Facilitation Support
Help facilitate or co-teach weekly mentor sessions or workshops as needed
Support the implementation of curriculum and experiential learning activities for mentors
Administrative Tasks
Assist with email communications, calendar management, room bookings, and material preparation
Ensure compliance with university policies, including those related to youth safety and transportation
Contribute to planning meetings and offer insights from direct program delivery
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required; may consider combination of relevant experience/education/certification in lieu of degree.
Experience: 1+ year of relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Youth Development, or a related field
Experience working with youth or college students in a teaching, mentoring, camp, or programmatic setting (can include internships or volunteer work)
Excellent communication skills and comfort interacting with a variety of stakeholders (students, parents, educators, staff)
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple moving parts
Enthusiasm for community engagement and student development
Availability to work evenings and weekends to support program needs
Experience working in school or after-school settings
Familiarity with the Charlottesville or Albemarle County area
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary Range (optional)
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
