The Profitability & Expense Analyst will focus on identifying opportunities to improve the financial performance across our store network. This role is responsible for analyzing store P&Ls, tracking expense drivers, modeling cost-saving initiatives, and partnering with cross-functional teams to implement strategies and system improvements that enhance profitability without compromising the customer experience.
Essential Job Functions
Analyze store-level financials (P&L, petty cash, shrink, supplies, etc.) to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities to reduce company expenses
Build dashboards and models to track cost metrics and the return on investment on expense-related initiatives
Partner with store field leadership, finance, accounting, loss prevention, and other store operation teams to lead initiatives that reduce controllable expenses and improve company profitability
Create and maintain a budgeting and forecasting process with a focus on expense targets and cost control strategies
Develop and distribute executive-level summaries and presentations with clear insights and recommendations
Generate cost benchmarking across various store formats/layouts and geography to understand and surface opportunities
Collaborate with data teams to build unified datasets and reporting for field team use to monitor and track expenses at the store level
Support the development of automated processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency is priority
Review statistical data and analyze proposed policy changes to estimate fiscal impacts and other expense implications.
Skills/Education/Experience
Required
Strong analytical and modeling skills with proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
2-4 years of experience in financial analysis, retail operations, or business analytics
Experience with SQL or other data query languages
Communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present complex data to leadership
Desired
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, or related field.
Experience in retail/store environments

Familiarity with retail P&L structure and operational levers
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
