Description of Work Unit
TheDepartment of Occupational Therapy (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/ot/) is one of eight academic units in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University. The department’s academic programs are on-campus and include an entry-level OTD (150+ students) and a PhD in Occupation and Rehabilitation Science (12+ students). The OTD program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education ( ACOTE ). The Department’s mission is to optimize human performance and participation in everyday occupations and contexts across the lifespan. In 2025, the U.S. News & World Report ranked Colorado State University’s Occupational Therapy program #3 in the country.
OT is home to 20 faculty and 20 administrative professionals and staff. Researchers are externally funded to conduct real-world research projects that have a positive impact on the lives of people in areas such as occupation and well-being, brain injury, sleep, sensory integration, play, and behavioral and neuroimaging measurement. Consistent with CSU’s culture of excellence, faculty in the Department have an established record of innovative education, research, and community-based practice and engagement. In addition to its academic programs, the Department is currently home to two service and research centers: the Assistive Technology Resource Center and the Center for Community Partnerships.

Position Summary
Colorado State University seeks engaged, innovative, visionary, strategic, high-energy leaders to apply for the position of Professor and Department Head ofOccupational Therapy (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/ot/) (OT). This position is a 12-month, full-time faculty position. We are seeking applicants who are excited about joining a strong department and who have a proven track record of academic leadership, innovative research, effective teaching and mentorship, meaningful service, and outstanding interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Successful candidates will have demonstrated high ethical standards and are expected to operate in a transparent and collegial way. Additionally, successful candidates should be responsive to the needs of faculty, staff, and students within the department and have a strong commitment to working collectively to elevate the Department of OT to the next level of national and international recognition.

Required Job Qualifications
+ Earned Doctorate in a field related to Occupational Therapy.
+ Academic credentials commensurate with a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure (mid-career Associate Professor or higher rank) in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Colorado State University.
+ Demonstrated record of a funded research program characterized by national/international recognition.
+ Demonstrated commitment to promoting research excellence, evidenced by student, postdoctoral, and/or faculty mentorship and leadership in grant-writing and research development opportunities.
+ Demonstrated record of teaching and mentoring excellence, and leadership in undergraduate and/or graduate curricular and instructional development.
+ Demonstrated record of administrative, personnel management, and leadership experience.
+ Demonstrated effective strategic planning, allocation of resources, and accountability for outcomes.
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Experience as department head, associate dean, or program director.
+ Experience with assessment and accreditation/reaccreditation processes.
+ Demonstrated experience in maximizing faculty, staff, and student professional growth and potential.
+ Experience leading the tenure and promotion process and annual review of faculty and staff.
+ Demonstrated record of effective fundraising and donor relations experience.
+ Demonstrated ability to facilitate open and collaborative relationships within and external to the unit (e.g., agency or state partners).
+ Experience with, or strong familiarity with, community outreach in relation to a land-grant institution(s).
+ Demonstrated experience in financial asset management, fiscal analysis/systems, and budget development, including forecasting and reporting.
+ Eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in Colorado.
