Located in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, UPMC Presbyterian is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a leader in organ transplantation, cardiology, trauma, stroke, and cutting-edge research. The Medical ICU (MICU) is a 32-bed critical care unit that specializes in treating patients with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, pre/post-lung transplants, renal failure, and toxicology cases. Nurses in the MICU gain hands-on experience with ventilators, trachs, vasopressors, neuromuscular blockades, and CRRT machines.

+ Minimum 1 year of RN experience preferred
+ BSN preferred
+ Previous Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience preferred
+ Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or clinical transitions course preferred
Skills & Abilities:
+ Knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care
+ Understanding of growth and development principles to assess and meet patient needs
+ Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
+ Good clinical judgment and ability to apply the nursing process effectively
+ Ability to work in a complex environment and handle multiple/changing priorities
+ Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with staff, providers, patients, and families
+ Physical ability for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients
Licensure, Certifications & Clearances:
+ Current Pennsylvania RN License (or must obtain within four months of hire)
+ CPR certification (AHA standards, didactic & skills demonstration required within 30 days of hire)
+ ACLS certification (within 1 year of employment)
+ Act 34 Criminal Clearance required
Additional Notes:
+ Graduate Nurses (GNs) must complete licensure examination within 4 months of hire or within 1 year of graduation, whichever comes first. Failure to do so may result in termination or demotion at UPMC’s discretion.
