About the Role
As a Professional Staff Nurse on our 6 West Acute Care unit, you’ll be a vital member of the care delivery team. You’ll provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients and families, while collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to achieve the best outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver patient-centered care using the nursing process and Relationship-Based Care model
Develop and implement individualized care plans
Educate patients and families throughout the care journey
Collaborate with peers and leadership to improve care quality and safety
Participate in shared governance, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice
Serve as a mentor and preceptor to students and new staff
Maintain a healthy work-life balance and model professional accountability
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
0–2 years of nursing experience required
Clinical Competency:
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients across the lifespan
Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and deliver appropriate care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Professional Skills:
Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members including executives, managers, physicians, and support staff
Capable of working effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment
Physical Requirements:
Mobility and visual/manual dexterity
Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or a multistate license under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)
UPMC-approved national certification preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire (AHA standards)
Graduate Nurses must pass the licensure exam within 6 months of hire or within one year of graduation (whichever comes first)
Flexible Scheduling Options:
UPMC offers various scheduling programs including night shift and weekend shift options with premium pay differentials. Candidates interested in these programs must have at least 6 months of nursing experience and may be required to complete orientation during regular business hours.
