Professional Staff Nurse, ONC (RN) – Neuro/Oncology

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring for a Regular Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse, ONC (RN) to help support the team located at 5115 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.  This position will work a full-time daylight schedule Monday through Friday as a Collaborative Practice Nurse supporting the Neuro team and act as a float.

The Collaborative Practice Nurse will:

Work daily with the provider and clinical team to assess and manage clinic patients Triage patient questions, concerns, and needs

Responsibilities:

Contribute to department-specific quality improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for enhanced care and discussing them with colleagues and leadership. Demonstrate personal accountability in elevating patient satisfaction and the quality of service. Apply evidence-based practices to clinical care and engage in multidisciplinary discussions that influence patient outcomes and care planning. Support a culture of learning by identifying relevant research and facilitating quality improvement conversations within care teams.

Professional Engagement:

Take an active role in shared governance, goal setting, and supporting change initiatives that enhance care delivery and the work environment. Respond proactively to care team needs and contribute meaningfully to improving both patient outcomes and the professional practice culture. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in navigating change and transitioning processes.

Foster strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues by demonstrating enthusiasm, accountability, and a commitment to professional excellence. Education and Mentorship:

Incorporate adult learning principles to effectively educate patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide detailed, patient-specific teaching throughout the care episode and transition phases. Support professional growth by mentoring new staff and students and promoting open, constructive dialogue.

Clinical Practice:

Apply the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care framework, ensuring personalized and holistic care planning. Exhibit critical thinking in addressing complex clinical and psychosocial factors within the patient’s episode of care. Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, advocate for patient-centered changes, and document care clearly to support caregiver collaboration. Align practice with national standards and organizational goals to improve safety, quality, and patient satisfaction.
