Job Details The Coding Educator position is high profile and requires a candidate who is proactive, mature, dynamic, consistent with professional appearance and demeanor, and has the ability to develop and maintain positive strong relationships through challenging situations. This position requires a solid understanding of complex coding principles, guidelines, and concepts and can broadly apply those guidelines resulting in effective auditing and education to assigned services/departments, coding and billing teams. It also requires a broad exposure and knowledge of the general healthcare landscape and the historical and current trends across the healthcare revenue cycle spectrum. Actively participates in quality monitoring and provides timely feedback regarding ICD-10, CPT coding and documentation improvement opportunities. Provides specialty specific education for individual staff members and providers within assigned service lines. This role is also involved in onboarding of new providers and assists with annual training. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Assess, design, facilitate, develop, implement and evaluate coding and documentation efforts to ensure we achieve optimal coding outcomes and remaining compliant with the policies of the network, state, federal and third-party guidelines. Organize, facilitate, perform, track, trend, and report on internal quality reviews based on compliance plan and/or independent data analysis. Develop action plans working directly with providers and staff to address identified issues and improve overall documentation and coding. Develop and deliver education in varied settings including large group presentations, classroom, small group forums, and 1: 1, and virtual forums. Demonstrates expertise in teaching and learning process. Able to understand and flex communication style to meet the learning needs of the audience. Serves as coding/documentation expert for assigned areas. Helps to resolve problems and recommends solutions, including documentation design and claim editing in the EMR, where there is opportunity for improvement. Actively identifies opportunities for improvement, concerns, and trends and develops and implements action plans for such findings. Evaluates and communicates outcomes based on data and metrics chosen to demonstrate success of the plan. Collaborates with medical staff to develop and implement education training associated with new technologies, procedures and quality related to coding and documentation. Presents standard education modules including but not limited to new provider orientation Conducts research using credible industry accepted sources to support and advance coding and documentation education and issues. Extract and analyze complex data from various systems and turn into meaningful action based information for end users. Uses credible data to drive decisions. Maintains current knowledge of coding, compliance and documentation guidelines and trends for assigned departments/specialties. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education Requirements Associate's Degree with 5 years of coding or coding/billing experience in a professional billing setting or High School Diploma with 7 years coding or coding/billing experience in a professional billing setting. Preferred Requirements: Bachelor's Degree - Business or related field of study in healthcare Clinical credentials welcome but not required Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses CPC – Certified Professional Coder or CCS-P or RHIT/RHIA MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5 years minimum EMR experience (Epic preferred) Minimum of 3 years of experience multi-specialty Coding (5+ years preferred) Experience using Microsoft Office suite with Intermediate skill set in Excel Previous training experience highly preferred MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA) Communication Excellent written, oral communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and style Comfort with presenting to large and small groups Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values ability to analyze data and information and apply to work related situations Proficient in research and time management Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with time constraints Salary Range USD $70,000.00 - USD $90,000.00 /Yr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
