Serves as the subject matter expert for the Environmental Health and Safety leveraged service group for Environmental and Permit matters. Supports the site and departments in ensuring compliance with legislation along with the coordination and management of Government Agency visits. Evaluates cost-effective environmental improvement initiatives and projects. Responsibilities / Duties + Supports Global Regulatory Services Team in leading the implementation of new external regulatory requirements. + Leads implementation team projects for new requirements including developing and delivering training, implementation tools, and assisting plants with implementation. + Provides rule interpretation and development of interpretation documentation and develop advocacy positions for Dow. + Develops general understanding of key plant processes and businesses within assigned regions or hubs, and understands impact of new regulations on those processes or businesses. + Participates in integrated EHS Audits. + Participates on internal project teams focused on client satisfaction and overall work process enhancements. + Ensure the regulatory compliance to the Dow products in Japan with Japanese chemical regulations*1, industrial standards*2 + *1 CSCL (Chemical Substance Control Law), ISHL (Industrial Safety and Health Law), FSL (Fire Service Law), PRTR (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register Law), PDSL (Poisonous and Deleterious Substance Control Law), FDSL (FooD Sanitation Law), PMDL (Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Law), etc. + *2 JIS (Japan Industrial Standard) Z 725n (n=2,3), etc. + Manage and conduct appropriate training on regulatory compliance to internal stakeholders like the business product stewardship, sales in local, etc. + Work with external organizations like the industrial associations (JCIA, JCII, JCEIA, etc.), METI, MHLW, MoE, etc. for Dow and chemical industries successes + Lead improvement projects + Manage data quality and governance that assists JP regulatory compliance Skill required, preferred + 5+ yrs Experience in JP regulatory affair, product safety area (preferred) + Ability to provide interpretation of complex rules/regulations and ensures appropriate documentation. + Chemistry background (required) in university and/or Corporate R&D division + Organic chemistry background (preferred), because JP substance controls under the regulations are based on chemical, substance names + Good understanding of Japanese regulations and JIS + Solid system interface skillset + SAP EHS, MS365, PC (Product Compliance) module Experience (preferred) + Possess strong communication, teamwork, facilitation, and leadership skills + Ability to balance business requirements, operational optimization and regulatory compliance + Ability to solve complex problems with a cross functional team, interact with people from different cultural backgrounds globally, across Dow businesses and functions + Ability to lead improvement projects, compliance initiatives and manage regulatory risk across the organization + Courage to challenge the status quo to drive continuous improvement. + Language + Japanese: Native + English: Intermediate to Proficient Benefits – What Dow offers you We invest in you.
