Product Manager - Customer Data

Product Manager – Customer Data

An exciting Product Manager opportunity to work closely with a variety of teams to advance several core strategic initiatives by building data products that improve our customer understanding, enhance our customer experience, increase the effectiveness of our Marketing campaigns and enable data monetisation.

Sainsbury's is embarking on an exciting journey of technological investment and innovation. With significant funding, we are enhancing our capabilities to lead in data, analytics, and personalisation. Our focus is on delivering high-quality data solutions that empower our customers and end users to make informed decisions and to achieve our business objectives. We are proud to boast one of the most compelling data sets in the country, leveraging insights to build scalable, high-performing products that enhance customer experiences. In our inclusive and agile environment, you will have the opportunity to be curious, experiment, and tackle real-world challenges with your colleagues, witnessing the impact of your work on hundreds of colleagues and millions of customers across the UK.

More about the role

You will lead an agile data engineering team, in partnership with an Engineering Manager, to drive the development of core data products that are pivotal to our CRM and personalisation capabilities and therefore our customer experience across all our brands. You’ll be accountable for the roadmap, working in support of the Group Product Manager to ensure all activity is prioritised in line with our business strategy and agreed Customer Interaction Data goals and metrics. You'll work with both commercial and technical stakeholders to share and deliver on our vision; working closely with a range of teams so that we can communicate with millions of customers every week when and where it makes sense for them and continually improve our customers’ experience.

You’ll work in close collaboration with a variety of engineering teams and other Product teams, architects, analysts, data scientists, senior stakeholders and third-party partners. You will confidently manage priorities; you’ll have a strong grasp of the big picture, working to understand dependencies, arbitrating conflicting priorities and influencing across teams to drive value while fostering a community spirit and culture of proactive feedback within Sainsbury's. You will continually review product value, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost reduction and use this insight to inform prioritisation. You’ll support the communication and resolution of live product incidents and effectively prioritise, coordinate and communicate the resolution of production issues.

More about you

You’re a people person. You’ll lead an engineering team and collaborate with a huge variety of stakeholders. You’re a great communicator. You can land messages clearly with stakeholders, generating energy and driving consensus even when we’re having to make tough decisions and can articulate a compelling vision and goals for your product.  You’re a Product enthusiast. You’re dedicated to value balancing the customer and the tech; you have an enthusiasm for delivering change through people and technology, you appreciate how to prioritise and deliver on outcomes, and you understand agile delivery and engineering practices. You want to get stuck into our product community and continuously develop – to start or to develop your Product career.  You’re a curious person. You are technically curious; you keep your finger on the pulse of what’s going on in the industry and are aware of key trends influencing sustainability and your team’s group of products. You’re proactive and pragmatic. You are a self-starter, able to push ahead and bring people with you, building productive relationships internally and externally. You seek opportunities to provide input and support across the team and beyond core areas of focus - a role model for effective collaboration. You are comfortable dealing with ambiguous situations and helping drive toward clarity and you understand how data can be used to influence decisions. Additionally, any experience in managing or understanding of data products would be useful but is not essential.
