Product Manager - API
Job Description We are seeking a Product Manager to support the strategy, delivery, and governance of the External API Platform. This role sits at the intersection of product management, engineering, and ‘gateway’ teams. The Product Manager will help manage backlogs, partner with engineers and architects, and ensure our API platforms are scalable, automated, and secure. Operating in a highly collaborative environment, you will translate business and application needs into product roadmaps that enable reliable API services across AWS, Azure, GCP, private cloud, and on-premises platforms. Key Responsibilities •Accountable to drive product strategy, vision, and backlog management for the API Platform •Use customer feedback, analytics, and data-driven insights to inform product direction. •Define and manage metrics to measure the success of API Platform initiatives. •Collaborate with engineers and architects to optimize how engineers will create, use and share ‘APIs” across large, diverse populations. •Engage in validation activities to ensure product strategies address customer and business needs. •Break down complex problems into actionable tasks and prioritize backlogs. •Support automation, DevOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to improve service scalability and reliability. •Ensure successful execution of standards and governance requirements. Skills and Requirements •3–5 years of experience in product management supporting a API Platforms like Kong, Apigee or APIM. •Solid technical understanding of API Gateways and providing Automation to simplify Engineering Experience. - how they are built, how people use them, how they consume them. •Experience working as an Engineer/Developer before moving into product •The candidate should be able to lead conversations with stakeholders and effectively communicate product vision. •Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decisions. •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Information Systems, Computer Engineering or like-minded field •Familiarity with APIs and integration approaches across at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP, private cloud, or on-premises). •Working knowledge of automation and DevOps practices that support reliable API delivery. •Proven ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, architecture, security, and business team in a lean matter. •Experience in creating and maintaining product roadmaps tied to customer and enterprise outcomes. •Insights into strategies for monetizing APIs and the business models that can be applied. •The candidate should have a solid grasp of API gateways, which serve as a single entry point for managing and routing API requests. •The candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of both RESTful APIs and GraphQL, including their principles, use cases, and best practices. •The candidate should be well-versed in the OpenAPI Specification (formerly known as Swagger) for documenting APIs. •Practical experience with building a “unified’ API platform where APIs are shared across large and diverse user populations.
