**Job Summary**
The Product Development Scientist/Engineer – Pavement Marking will be responsible for developing and enhancing thermoplastic pavement marking products from concept to commercialization. This role involves formulating new materials, conducting rigorous testing, and analyzing performance data to ensure products meet industry standards and customer expectations. The individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, maintain strong supplier partnerships, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position also emphasizes continuous learning, innovation, and sustainability to support 3M’s growth and leadership in the pavement marking industry.
**Job Responsibilities**
+ Lead the development of new thermoplastic formulations and product concepts, leveraging market research and technical expertise in pavement marking applications.
+ Enhance and optimize existing products in line with evolving market demands and technological advancements.
+ Design, build, and execute rigorous performance tests on prototypes to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer expectations.
+ Plan and oversee laboratory experiments to evaluate performance, durability, and environmental resilience of thermoplastic paints.
+ Analyze test data, interpret results, and recommend formulation adjustments to achieve target performance.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Marketing, Production, and Quality Assurance—to ensure products align with business objectives and customer requirements.
+ Establish and maintain strong partnerships with suppliers and vendors for sourcing and qualifying raw materials.
+ Maintain accurate and detailed records of formulations, testing protocols, and research findings.
+ Prepare, review, and present technical reports, documentation, and product specifications.
+ Ensure all products comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and certification requirements.
+ Drive adherence to safety and environmental protocols during product development and testing.
+ Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for innovation.
+ Champion sustainability initiatives and lead efforts to propose innovative solutions that improve product performance and environmental impact.
**Qualifications**
**Education**
+ Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
**Experience**
+ Minimum 10 years of product development experience, preferably within the coatings, paints, or related materials industry.
+ In-depth knowledge of thermoplastic materials, their properties, and practical applications in pavement marking.
**Skills**
+ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills.
+ Proven leadership, communication, and collaboration capabilities.
+ Proficiency in laboratory equipment usage, testing methodologies, and data analysis tools/software.
**Attributes**
+ Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and precision.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and deliver within deadlines.
+ Track record of successful product innovations, enhancements, and commercialization outcomes.
