What you'll do
You’ll lead supplier strategy in an evolving and business-critical area. You will manage complex third-party ecosystems and act as the subject matter expert for this category. As a critical business partner, you will challenge and support senior stakeholders as needed, while effectively managing supplier risk and performance. Building and managing productive relationships with key suppliers, you will identify opportunities and ideas, and lead contracting and commercial contract management within strategic partners in your category. 

This category spans our Financial Services products, as well as Payments software and hardware across both in‑store and online channels, including payment acquiring and gateway solutions delivered by providers, and sourcing Pin Entry Devices (PEDs) for tills, petrol pumps and SmartCharge. The scope also covers payment propositions, such as Buy Now Pay Later and credit options, where you will undertake competitor analysis to ensure Sainsbury’s continues to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Fraud management systems also sit within this remit, and a big focus of the role is risk management, ensuring we provide a safe and secure customer experience. You will additionally oversee supplier service levels, ensuring operational excellence across a complex and business‑critical ecosystem.


Who you are
You are a highly experienced and strategic procurement professional with a strong track record in creating and executing end-to-end category plans, within a dynamic and fast paced environment. Your experience in line management will be essential in fostering a collaborative and motivated team culture, enabling individuals to achieve their best and contribute to the wider success of the Procurement function. You bring valuable insight and solutions to drive business success, maximized through robust commercial contract management. 

This category is technical, complex and extremely fast-paced, so we’re looking for someone who is curious, strategic and innovative, and who is motivated by delivering easy, seamless and positive customer journeys.



Essential criteria:

Payments systems/transactions/provider procurement experience in a large retailer, or Financial Services/Consumer Finance procurement experience.   Experience of managing supplier agreements for payments propositions (BNPL, interest-free credit) or online/in-store payments processing software/hardware.   Demonstrable ownership of an end-to-end procurement category Experience negotiating and managing third-party supplier contracts, quantifying commercial risk and value Line management experience
