Financial Control - Fixed Assets Process Lead (Grade 7)

Role Purpose
The Financial Control - Fixed Assets Process Lead acts as a global business partner for all fixed asset accounting activities, ensuring accurate recording, valuation, and reporting of the company’s assets. The role provides accounting expertise and analytical support to business units across regions, maintaining compliance with IFRS/local GAAP and internal capitalization policies.
Role Description
This position manages and reviews end-to-end fixed asset processes, supporting capitalization, disposals, transfers, and reporting. The Financial Control - Fixed Assets Process Lead collaborates closely with project teams, finance controllers, and auditors to ensure accuracy of asset data and continuous improvement of FA processes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Business Partnering & Advisory
Be the go-to person for global fixed asset inquiries, offering accounting support and guidance to business units especially in case of Capital Program Planning / investment Meetings.
Provide advice on capitalization criteria, asset lives, and componentization standards to ensure compliance and clarity.
Work closely with project accounting teams to transition Assets Under Construction (AUC) into fixed assets, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
2. Asset Creation & Capitalization
Create and manage asset records, ensuring compliance with accounting and tax policies.
Verify master data and link assets to the correct cost centre, location, and useful life.
3. Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO)
Record and adjust asset retirement obligations and related liabilities.
Ensure proper depreciation and accounting treatment for AROs.
4. Fixed Asset Accounting & Reporting
Validate asset creation, disposals, and transfers for accuracy and compliance.
Process depreciation and amortization in line with regulations.
Prepare and analyse fixed asset reports, including additions, disposals, and AUC.
5. Sub-ledger Close & Reconciliation
Support monthly and year-end sub-ledger close activities.
Reconcile the fixed asset sub-ledger with the General Ledger and resolve discrepancies.
6. Continuous Improvement & Governance
Look for ways to automate and standardize processes across its competency areas to make things more efficient.
Take part in system enhancements and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for fixed asset functionalities, ensuring changes meet operational needs.
Ensure policies are followed and contribute to updating governance documentation to reflect best practices.
7. Continuous Improvement & System Enhancements
Identify process improvement opportunities and support automation.
Participate in system enhancements and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; pursuing or holding professional certification (CA, CPA, ACCA) preferred.
Experience:
5+ years in fixed asset accounting or financial accounting.
SAP FI-AA, MS Excel (Advanced), asset reporting tools, strong understanding of IFRS/local GAAP for FA, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
Expertise in complex transactions (impairments, retirements, transfers), financial reporting, and disclosures (capital commitments, leases)
Business partnering skills for investment committee support, including managing senior stakeholder meetings and preparing scheme documents
Skills & Competencies:
Technical / Functional Knowledge: Possesses a strong working knowledge of end-to-end Fixed Asset processes and ability to interpret and validate documents in the context of company policies
Problem solving: Identifies and resolves complex queries using a logical, data-driven approach to investigate root causes. Exercises sound judgement when handling non-standard issues
Organisation expertise: Understands the Fixed Asset function within the broader Record To Report (R2R) and finance organisation. Collaborates effectively with cross functional stakeholders (e.g. Procurement and Business)
Accountability: Takes full ownership of queries raised and follows through on resolutions and deadlines. Maintains a high standard of accuracy and escalates risks or errors in a timely and professional manner
Leadership: Supports onboarding and training of new analysts by sharing knowledge, documentation, and best practices. Represents the Fixed Asset team on meetings upon of its managers in case of their absence.
Interpersonal skills: Communicates clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders, Committee Members and external vendors, and represent the Fixed Asset function effectively in cross-functional conversations
