What You'll Do:  

The Improvement Engineer is responsible for implementing process and technology improvement opportunities within their technology area. This includes leading the team that evaluates improvements from the opportunity list for possible implementation. Works with the technology experts (Center of Excellence) to collect data required to complete scope definition for improvement projects and activities

 

What We're Looking For: 

Possesses in-depth process technology and continuous improvement skill sets helping to establish credibility with the operations team. Leads continuous improvement activities (gap closure / project scope definition) for the unit and serve in specific project related roles of manufacturing representative through FEL Design. Partners with the experts (Center of Excellence, Operations, EH&S) to develop project scope / gap closure plans that supports the business objectives. Analyzes production loss accounting data and to develop and prioritize a list of improve process opportunities. Champions process safety activities in project design. Partners with operations to ensure a robust, safe manufacturing process. Ensures implementation of the most effective technology in the project by integrating operability input from operations, corporate and business MET, and Maintenance and Reliability inputs into definition and design. Carries accountability for the technical integrity and operability of the units they support. Ensures effective interface between the manufacturing representative and plant operations to ensure technical integrity and optimum operability. Provides effective communication and coordination between project team and Operations.  Support project FEL as required. Lead for all new plant product trials.

 

Skills That Make a Difference: 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in an engineering discipline; mechanical or chemical engineering are preferred. Vision for maximizing value from process optimization and leveraging technology. Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts and tools. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and goals.  Ability to interact effectively with all levels and departments at the site. Strong planning, organization, and presentation skills. Self-driven and goal oriented.

 

Considered a Plus: 

3+ years’ operational or technical experience within a chemical plant, including co-ops or internships. Application of statistical techniques and software for data analysis and interpretation. Experience with lean manufacturing principles, including certification as Lean Six Sigma green belt or higher. Experience with SAP, Cora Systems, Emerson Delta V, AVEVA PI and/or Seeq

 

Working Conditions:

Full-time, on-site work schedule: 5 days per week or 9/80 schedule. Must be willing/able to work in a plant environment and occasionally outdoors in inclement weather.  Willing/able to work off hours/weekends, as required. Expected to wear all required PPE
