Process Engineer – Velva, ND
This is a full-time, exempt position.
As the Process Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing day to day operations. Your mission is to dive deep into tracking, and understanding department costs, yields, quality, process performance to ensure processes and projects are completed to enable efficient plant production.
As a mentor to front-line teammates, you’ll be nurturing talent as you work with both contractors and ADM colleagues as well as ADM leadership other stakeholders. This is not just a job—it’s your chance to lead, innovate, and fine-tune for success in our dynamic production ecosystem.
The Velva plant is a canola crushing, refining and biodiesel facility. This is a non-union facility with an hourly workforce of 50 and a salaried staff of 25 employees site wide. We also have 15-20 contractors on site. We receive trucks and railcars of canola from the US and Canada. Finished product is loaded into trucks and railcars and shipped all over the US and Canada.
Job Responsibilities: Oversight of specific processes and projects Project management may require purchasing of materials and supplies, equipment installation, budget tracking, employee training, and startup of projects Manage day-to-day operations which will may also include shift coverage if needed Project design, development, and management that are specific to the operations of an operating department Conduct optimization assessments to identify existing and potential opportunities, propose solutions to improve performance primarily in the areas of energy, chemicals, product yields, and reliability Support capital projects including control strategy development, P&ID management, administration of process control narratives suitable for control application development and process start up Training and mentoring of colleagues, with the potential of indirectly managing 10 to 30 hourly colleagues. Maintain a high degree of availability to a 24/7 operation. Job Requirements: B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Ag Preferred) or equivalent experience 3+ years of experience in a food processing production environment or similar industry Previous leadership experience (in a union environment is a plus) Strong commitment to safety and quality Demonstrated leadership, strong problem-solving skills Ability to manage personnel and work closely with corporate departments Ability to look beyond the task at hand, to anticipate challenges and develop options to overcome them Subject matter expert knowledge level of a variety of process unit operations Ability to work a rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays Excited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed?
