Process Engineer I

United States Steel is looking for a Process Engineer – Maintenance that will be responsible for applying engineering principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that resolve operational conditions and improve reliability. In addition, this role will supervise, direct, and coordinate efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen, and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and/or electrical equipment to maximize operating efficiencies and improve reliability. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively engage teams and promote an environment of respect, communication, and collaboration through two-way communication and encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for ensuring that U.S. Steel standards are met or exceeded for the administration of the corporate safety policies and programs and ensures all personnel, both management and hourly maintenance, adhere to the corporate and local safety guidelines.Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime.Oversee maintenance schedules, work orders, repairs, and inspections to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.Monitor equipment performance and maintenance metrics; recommend improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.Coordinate with production, engineering, and safety departments to ensure seamless operations and equipment reliability.Create and manage maintenance budgets, inventory, and procurement of spare parts and tools.Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance personnel to promote skill development and accountability.Develop and utilize appropriate surveillance and feedback systems to generate and evaluate dataParticipate in outages, capital projects, and facility upgrades as needed.Develop continuous improvement projects across area of responsibility improving KPI’sCollaborate with planners, supervisors, and technicians to implement reliability best practicesTrain and coach maintenance and operations personnel in reliability methodologies and tools.Develop asset maintenance strategies and reliability models for critical equipment.RequirementsBachelor’s degree, formal education and training in maintenance, engineering, technical field, or combination thereofA minimum of 5 years maintenance management in manufacturing or similar industryStrong analytical, communication and decision-making skillsStrong diagnostic and predictive skillsDemonstrated proactive approach with background in continuous improvementGood AC/DC Generator/motor theoryKnowledge of AC/DC medium/low voltage power transmission with transformers and motor control center.Preferred experience:PLC Experience - GE PLC's (9070, 9030, Genius I/O, Proficy), Allen Bradley Flex I/O and SiemensAC/DC Drive Experience - GE Drives (Siltaron, DC2000), ABB Drives
