Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is a leading refiner and recycler of precious group metals. The growing demand for low carbon and responsibly sourced products is creating growth opportunities in critical metals recycling and secondary refining, and as the world’s largest precious metals recycler, PGMS is a key player in the circular economy.
The role of the process engineer is to support the operation and to drive the continual improvement in primarily the Johnson Matthey West Deptford Material Preparation area, with additional support to the Platinum Group Metal (PGM) Refinery when needed. The incumbent will develop expertise in sampling science as well as metallurgy related to precious metal alloys for the purpose of ensuring accurate samples of high grade PGM metallics.
The incumbent will use a risk based approach in evaluating sampling processes to assess effectiveness and propose improvements. They will then manage small improvement projects or work with the Project Engineering group on larger projects to ensure we maintain the best available technology.
The incumbent will provide technical support to the Commercial Team in evaluating potential new feeds and help to troubleshoot where necessary issues with existing feeds or processes. This will involve some customer interaction including customer visits as needed to audit their sampling processes.
The incumbent will work closely with the Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial teams to help to ensure smooth processing of material through the Material Preparation area and into the PGM Refinery. They will also work closely with global teams to ensure expertise and best practices are shared.
Your Responsibilities:
Ensure Material Preparation quality documents and SOP’s are appropriate for the Production team to follow.Provide general technical support to the Material Preparation department to address processing issues and concerns and ensure safe and efficient operations.Design and carry out validations of sampling techniques to ensure the results are representative and repeatableAssist with refining evaluations to determine sampling and processing routes for potential new refining opportunities and identify potential EHS or operational concerns.Provide technical input into potential process improvements, modifying or commissioning new equipment in the Material Preparation department as needed.Conduct investigations to assist in Customer complaint resolution.Collaborate with Supply Chain, Commercial, and analytical teams to investigate and resolve potential sampling issues and evaluate risksParticipate in external plant visits/sampling audits to customer sites where JM off-site sampling approval exists.Provide technical support to customers and representatives as needed when witnessing their material being sampled.Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in Material Preparation and Refinery departments as required.Take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.Requirements for the role:
B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Material Science, or other related technical field2 - 3 years of experience in chemical industry with demonstrated application of technical competence3+ years of relevant industrial experience in the sampling and/or assaying of high-value materials – DesiredTechnical understanding of theory behind sampling techniques and quantitative risk assessments – DesiredStrong technical and critical thinking skills with a proactive approach to problem solvingExcellent communication skills and the ability to interface with external and internal customers and cross-functional teamsStrong Technical writing skillsAbility to influence without authority and drive continuous improvement effortsHow you will be rewarded:
