Job Description Process Development Internship

Start date: February/March 2026 

Duration: 5 to 6 months 

Platform/Project: Multiple teams/projects 

 

Basic Requirements for all:   

You should have strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal (Dutch is not a requirement but other languages are a plus)  

You are enrolled at a university for at least 50% study load for the duration of the internship.  

NOTE: EU working rights are required (Either you have EU Citizenship, you are studying in the Netherlands or have relevant student work visa)

Next Generation Tomato  

During your assignment, you will be part of the Global Growth R&D team. You’ll be working in a high performing team, alongside peers always trying to reach the next level. As an integrated team member, we welcome you to take part in the team’s activities such as team meetings & category meetings which will give you a real feel for the company and the business. Get ready for a lot of exposure to internal senior stakeholders. The delivery of the Next Generation Emulsions/Tomato project will be your primary responsibility.  

Assignment and key activities:  

You will be responsible for running trials and analysis on emulsified products/tomato-based products that will enable the delivery of a new process to be implemented in the factories. 

Learning about emulsification/tomato processing and application for current products. 

Coordinate pilot plant trials and collaborate with different partners. 

Setting up microbiological challenge tests to validate the process conditions and process lethality in close cooperation with our microbiologist/scientific services department. 

Understand the current way of working to produce Emulsions/Tomato based products at Pilot Plant and Factory scale. 

Understand analytical and sensory methods to measure trials performance. 

Define an analytical plan. 

Prepare periodic presentations to keep the internship supervisor, and the Process Team informed about the progress. 

 

Specific Team Requirements: 

Bachelor/Master level in chemical engineering, food processing technology or food related engineering 

Knowledge on: General process on food industry, Scale up knowledge, Ingredients interaction and Emulsification/Tomato process 

You are a team player who is proactive and has good communication skills. A curious and organized person. 

 

Process Modelling 

During your assignment, you will be part of the D&EM (Developed and Emerging Markets) R&D team. You’ll be working in a high performing team, alongside peers always trying to reach the next level. You’ll be reporting to Francesco Torraca, Process Design & Pilot Plant Manager). As an integrated team member, we welcome you to take part in the team’s activities such as team meetings & category meetings which will give you a real feel for the company and the business. Get ready for a lot of exposure to internal senior stakeholders. The delivery of the Process Modeling Program will be your primary responsibility.   

  
Project brief  

You will be responsible for the development, validation and simulation of mathematical/ data models for key unit operations, that will enable continuous improvement of our production processes and development of novel process design. Furthermore, you’ll support the development of new digital capabilities.  

Key activities   

Learning about Processing technologies and potential applications for the Kraft Heinz portfolio.  

Data generation by performing pilot plant trials with different unit operations and the key unit operation under investigation  

Developing, validating and simulation of CFD / mathematical / data models for key unit operations under investigation  

Carrying out a techno-economic evaluation on the outcome generated by model.  

Set conclusions & recommendations.  

Sharing knowledge within the HIC and other departments (presentation and final report).   

 

Job Requirements  

Education: Master’s level in food processing technology or chemical food/chemical related engineering 

Work Experience: Minimal  

Knowledge on: Food processing, unit operations, process modelling, programming
