Process Control & Modelling Engineer – Oil & Gas
Position Description:

We are seeking a seasoned Process Control & Modelling Engineer with 7–8 years of experience in the oil & gas sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation, process modelling, and control systems, with a proven track record of delivering high-impact solutions in upstream, midstream, or downstream operations. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to optimize production processes, enhance asset performance, and support digital transformation initiatives.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

. Lead the development, deployment, and optimization of process control strategies across oil & gas production and refining assets.
. Build and maintain dynamic process models using simulation tools to support operational decision-making, troubleshooting, and predictive maintenance.
. Collaborate with operations, instrumentation, and IT teams to integrate control systems (DCS/PLC/SCADA) with enterprise applications and data platforms.
. Implement Advanced Process Control (APC) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) solutions to improve throughput, energy efficiency, and product quality.
. Support digital twin initiatives and contribute to the development of smart manufacturing capabilities.
. Conduct root cause analysis, process hazard analysis (PHA), and risk assessments to ensure safe and reliable operations.
. Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISA-95, ISA-88, and IEC 62443, and Shell's internal OT security protocols.
. Participate in technology evaluations and vendor assessments to identify best-fit solutions for control and modelling applications.
. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including functional specifications, architecture diagrams, and validation protocols.
. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to capability building within the engineering team.

 

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
. Experience in process control, modelling, or manufacturing applications within the oil & gas industry.
. Proficiency in tools such as Aspen DMC, ROMeo, Honeywell UniSim or AVEVA Process Simulation.
. Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC systems (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson, Yokogawa, ABB) and SCADA/HMI platforms.
. Strong understanding of process safety, alarm management, and cybersecurity in OT environments.
. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
