Process Control Engineering Intern

As a Process Control Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below. 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:  

Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms 

Maintenance of computer hardware and software 

Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system 

Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes 

Address issues that may impact production or system reliability 

Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature 

Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers 

Work with complex measurement systems, such as: 

Vision systems for product quality 

Thermal imaging temperature measurements 

RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification 

X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems 

Work with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces 

Close coordination with a production department 

Respond to routine and emergency requests 

Manage local area project, task, and priority lists 

Make recommendations for system and process improvements 

Work with vendors on products and performance issues 

Coordinating with Research and Development and other staff departments 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical degree 

Completion of sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026
