Akron General's 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy, and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. **A caregiver in this position works varying day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Perform administrative and clerical duties. + Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit. + Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care. + Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. + Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources. + Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care. + Troubleshoot equipment. + Respond to patient call lights. + Keep nursing stations clean and organized. + Complete mandatory education and training.
