Hillcrest Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department provides pediatric care services in child-friendly waiting rooms where they have more privacy and comfort. This department is staffed 24/7 with board-certified, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, as well as nurses who are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and pediatric trauma care. The Pediatric Emergency Department has a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) unit which provides children who are victims of assault, abuse or neglect with private care, utmost respect, compassion, complete physical assessments and, if needed, collecting physical evidence. The Emergency Department also has Child Life Specialists who help reduce anxiety for children and their families and provide guidance and emotional support. 

How You’ll Benefit 

Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. 

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts with one weekend within a 6-week period and one summer and winter holiday per year requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide direct nursing care. Implement and monitor patient care plans.  Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.  Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing   Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association within one year of hireExternal candidates: two years of recent related nursing experience  Internal candidates with less than two years of experience, but are post-orientation/90-day probationary period, may be considered with CNO level review and approval Licensed military RN experience will be considered  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)ICU or critical care experiencePediatric Emergency Department experiencePediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
