About the Role

This Data Privacy Analyst is a non-attorney that position will sit within HARMAN’s Privacy Team, which is part of the Legal & Compliance Department. The Privacy Team is responsible for counseling HARMAN’s divisions, strategic business units (SBUs), and corporate teams globally on privacy and data protection. 

The Data Privacy Analyst will serve as the primary contact for an assigned division’s privacy compliance activities/issues involving personal data. The Analyst will work with the appropriate contacts within the division’s SBUs to conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs), document data processing activities and map data flows, and embed privacy by design into the SBUs' operations. Under the direction of attorneys on the Privacy Team, they will communicate guidance to the SBUs on data protection requirements and best practices in accordance with applicable data protection laws and escalate medium-to-high risk issues/activities to the Privacy attorneys. 
 

What You Will Do

Under the direction of the Director of Privacy, conduct privacy compliance activities for an assigned HARMAN SBU that operates and sells products and services to individual and business-to-business (B2B) customers globally. Work with the appropriate contacts within the division to conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs), document data processing activities, and embed privacy by design into the operations of the division’s SBUs. Ensure the business activities of the divisions and its SBUs align with HARMAN’s privacy framework and policies. Provide guidance to the division and its SBUs on data protection requirements and best practices in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Assist with building data protection clauses into the division’s contract templates. Monitor and analyze controls for privacy risks. Identify and escalate medium-to-high-risk data processing activities to the Director of Privacy and relevant stakeholders. Oversee responses to/completion of data subject access requests. Manage documentation and escalation of data protection claims. Provide operational support for privacy-related incidents impacting the division and its SBUs, including serving on incident management teams as needed and cooperating with cross-functional stakeholders on incident response. 

What You Need to Be Successful

Bachelor’s degree.  At least 3 years of privacy risk and compliance experience in multinational, complex organizations, preferably involving automotive and/or technology. Experience with privacy product counseling for consumer and commercial products and services, including conducting PIAs. Experience communicating data-privacy guidance throughout the product lifecycle – from product development/design through launch (e.g., R&D, strategic partnerships, and product management). Comprehensive understanding of global data protection regulations (including the GDPR, CCPA, and PIPL) and the practical application of those regulations. Experience with reviewing basic data protection terms in contracts, customer policies, and supplier policies involving consumer data. Experience with drafting standard data protection agreements (DPAs). Knowledge of regulatory and industry trends in data protection.  Experience working with privacy automation tools (OneTrust preferred). Sound and practical business judgment, intellectual creativity, strong ethical compass, and problem-solving skills. Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
 

Bonus Points if You Have

Juris Doctor or other advanced degree.  Professional privacy certification (e.g., CIPP certification). 

What Makes You Eligible

Be willing to travel up to 10%, domestic and international travel.  Be willing to work remotely and occasionally in an office located in Novi, Michigan or anywhere in the US.Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screen. Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment

Salary Ranges:

$ 76,500 - $ 112,200
