Job Title: Prior Authorization Pharmacy TechnicianJob Description The role involves contacting plans to validate requests, obtaining current prescriptions and clinical documentation from physician offices, and ensuring that the documentation meets plan requirements. Initiating prior authorizations through Cover My Meds, following up on pending authorizations, and responding to urgent emails are essential tasks. The technician will also obtain approval or denial letters and submit complex authorization approvals for auditing, as well as initiate re-authorizations before expiration. Responsibilities + Contact PBM or Major Medical plans to validate requests. + Obtain current prescriptions from physician’s offices. + Acquire necessary clinical documentation from physician’s offices. + Validate received clinical documentation against plan requirements. + Initiate prior authorizations through Cover My Meds. + Follow up on pending prior authorizations within 48 hours. + Respond to urgent emails from the Patient Care Coordinator Team promptly. + Obtain approval and denial letters. + Submit new complex authorization approvals through the audit process. + Initiate re-authorizations 30 days prior to expiration. Essential Skills + Customer service experience. + Pharmacy technician certificate. + Pharmacy technician license. + Experience in prior authorizations. + Data entry skills. + PTCB active certification. + Illinois Pharmacy Technician License. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Minimum of 1-3 years of pharmacy technician experience, preferably in a specialty pharmacy. + Experience with authorizations and familiarity with Major Medical Insurance. + Knowledge of Pharmacy Benefits. + Familiarity with HCPCS codes, notably J-codes. + Familiarity with ICD-10 diagnosis codes. Work Environment This is a hybrid role with a training period of 6-8 weeks. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 6 pm. The role offers a balance between onsite work in Elk Grove Village (2 days) and remote work (3 days). Remote work is a privilege that can be revoked if performance expectations are not met.
