Responsibilities
At Mayo Clinic, enterprise architecture is not a documentation exercise — it is a strategic lever for how we scale innovation, govern complexity, and deliver on our commitments to patients, clinicians, researchers, and partners. We are seeking a Principal Technologist – Enterprise Architecture Portfolio Lead to serve as a senior leader within the Office of the CTO, shaping and advancing the enterprise architecture agenda across the organization.
Reporting directly to the CTO, this role operates at the center of strategy, board-level commitments, and architectural execution. You will determine which architectural initiatives matter most, how they are framed, when they are sequenced, and how tradeoffs are made across a complex and rapidly evolving portfolio. This is a high-visibility position that requires executive presence, sound judgment, and the ability to engage credibly with senior leaders across business and IT domains.
As the integrator of the enterprise architecture portfolio, you will ensure coherence across domains and prevent fragmentation as new platforms, digital capabilities, and emerging technologies are introduced. You will make architectural priorities explicit, clarify decision pathways, and serve as the primary escalation point for major architectural determinations before the CTO. Success in this role means preserving and strengthening the integrity of the enterprise architecture while enabling innovation at scale.
The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who combines architectural fluency with enterprise-level perspective. You do not need to be the deepest technical expert in every domain, but you must be technically credible, strategically grounded, and comfortable making defensible decisions in ambiguous environments. You bring the confidence to challenge assumptions, the discipline to stop or defer misaligned work, and the communication skills to translate complex architectural considerations into clear executive narratives.
This is full time, hybrid position with expectations of 1 day working on campus per week. The incumbent must live within a reasonable driving distance of a Mayo Clinic campus. Mayo Clinic will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position including F1 OPT STEM.
