Principal Technical Product Manager

ADP is hiring a Principal Technical Product Manager

We're hiring a Principal Technical Product Manager to work in our next gen global Payroll Platform strategy and execution. This role will drive platform capabilities that enable ADP's international expansion across various countries, managing a complex portfolio that includes Globalization initiatives, payments orchestration, statements platform, and platform standardization efforts. You'll join a growing team of product managers, architects, engineers, and AI researchers building the platform that enables ADP's international expansion across various countries. We're looking for someone who thrives in complexity: you'll balance strategic vision with hands-on execution, work across multiple country teams and engineering organizations. You will make product decisions that need to hold up under real-world scale across diverse global markets. You'll translate complex, high-level country requirements into end-to-end platform capabilities, identify reusable patterns across geographies, and drive the shift from custom code to configurable frameworks. You're energized by global challenges, comfortable defending architectural trade-offs, and ready to push for technical excellence while keeping business constraints front and center.      Here's what you can expect on a typical day:    Strategic Planning & Stakeholder Alignment. You'll start your day reviewing priorities across multiple countries and engineering teams. You'll facilitate coordination meetings with global development teams and regional product managers, extracting priorities and negotiating roadmap commitments. You're constantly balancing critical launches with long-term platform evolution.    Requirements Translation & Pattern Recognition. You'll take high-level country requests—often incomplete and calculation-focused—and expand them into complete platform flows. You're excellent at identifying reusable patterns across countries. You’re always asking "How does this scale globally?”    Architecture & Design Collaboration. You'll spend time with architects and senior engineers debating technical approaches. You can hold your own discussing microservices, event-driven architecture, configuration frameworks, and multi-tenancy patterns. You translate technical trade-offs for business stakeholders and defend why certain decisions matter for scale.    Cross-Functional Coordination. You'll coordinate across platform components—policy management, payroll processing, tax filing, reporting, integrations—ensuring cohesive end-to-end delivery. You'll partner with frontend teams on practitioner experiences and AI research teams on intelligent automation. You're the glue connecting diverse teams toward common goals.    Documentation & Communication. You'll write sharp design briefs, functional specifications, and architecture decision records. You'll present to VP-level executives on portfolio status and risks. You're capable at persuading partners with varying seniority and technical expertise.      Intake & Assessment. When new country requests come in, you'll assess them for reusability, identify gaps in specifications, and run working sessions to expand calculation-only requests into full platform flows. You're comfortable pushing back when requests don't align with platform principles and proposing better alternatives.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:    Experience & Background    You have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field. Bonus if you have hands-on technical experience or have worked in payroll, HCM, or financial services domains.

You have 10+ years of firsthand experience defining and delivering enterprise platform products, working with agile teams across multiple geographies and time zones.

You have 3+ years working on global products serving multiple countries/regions with varying regulatory requirements

You've successfully launched products in highly regulated domains (payroll, tax, HR) where compliance, auditability, and scale were key success factors. Extra credit if you've worked on global products serving multiple countries with varying regulatory requirements.

You've managed highly critical portfolios, balancing multiple concurrent workstreams and critical milestones.

You've worked hands-on with AI/ML features—bonus if you've integrated generative AI, LLM-based automation, or intelligent tooling into product workflows.

Technical Depth

You're comfortable digging into platform architecture, APIs, microservices, configuration frameworks, and event-driven systems. You can read code, review database schemas, and engage credibly with senior architects on design trade-offs. You understand CI/CD pipelines, feature flagging, progressive rollouts, and how to de-risk platform changes across multiple countries simultaneously. You have a working knowledge of AI/ML concepts, prompt engineering, LLM integration, and responsible AI practices. You've successfully integrated GenAI/LLM tooling into your professional workflows and stay current with developments in this space.

Product Management Excellence

You will own end-to-end requirements definition, producing detailed functional specifications, process flows, and architecture decision records that enable high-quality engineering execution (not just user story-level definitions). You're exceptional at pattern recognition—when you see a requirement from one country, you instinctively check for similar needs in other markets and design for reusability. You've successfully transitioned platforms from custom implementations to configurable, self-service models. You understand what it takes to shift teams from "build for me" to "enable me to build." You routinely measure product effectiveness using adoption metrics, launch readiness KPIs, and capability utilization data. You make data-driven decisions while balancing qualitative feedback from global teams.

Communication & Leadership

You are an adaptive, versatile communicator. You can articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders. You can explain prioritization trade-offs and gain buy-in across matrixed organizations. You inspire through storytelling and create alignment through influence, not authority. You are an outstanding and empathetic listener. You effortlessly build rapport with people across cultures and time zones. You navigate ambiguity with grace and keep teams moving forward when requirements are unclear.

You can present confidently to VP level executives, defending architectural decisions and portfolio trade-offs with data and conviction.

You are a natural optimist with the conviction that the right mindset, collaboration, and grit can overcome any problem—even when launching a platform across countries with different legislative frameworks.

Global & Collaborative Mindset

You're comfortable with time zone overlap challenges (Australia, Europe, Latin America) for stakeholder alignment.

You've built trust with international teams and demonstrated cultural sensitivity in requirements gathering and stakeholder management. You're an ardent advocate for design thinking and human-centered principles—you design platforms for the COE developers who will use them, not just abstract technical requirements. You operate independently in project management tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.) for planning, documentation, tracking, and deployments.

Bonus Points

Experience with payroll processing, payroll downstream workflows, or HCM systems

Knowledge of international payroll rule variations and country -specific compliance

Familiarity with business process management, workflow orchestration, and reporting

Experience driving platform standardization initiatives that phase out legacy country-specific implementations.
