HDR is looking for a Principal Structural Engineer focused on environmental engineering structures to join our Southeast Region Structural Team. This position may be based out of our Charlotte, Raleigh, or Atlanta office. This individual will be responsible for advancing our regional technical structural engineering support of water and wastewater projects and providing technical leadership to our existing structural team. They will lead structural designs of facilities primarily in support of Water and Wastewater work while also providing support to a variety of markets including Municipal, Industrial, Power, and Federal. The Principal Structural Engineer will coordinate and work closely guiding the structural portion of a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. They will be responsible for the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction. Experience in structural design and detailing of building projects related to water and wastewater work is required. This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound structural engineering designs and advance the state of HDR’s structural engineering practice. The ideal candidate will have experience leading technical teams delivering designs of environmental engineering structures including reinforced concrete tanks and associated structures using the ACI 350 design code. While the position is not business development focused, interaction with project managers and HDR’s clients on a technical level will be required. Engagement and coordination with internal structural experts is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline requiredExperience leading technical teams delivering structural design projectsStrong knowledge of structural modeling software such as STAAD or other 3D analysis and finite element modeling softwareTechnical expertise with environmental engineering structuresWillingness to be a technical resource and guide junior engineersMS or MSCE Degree in Structural Engineering preferredPrevious experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desiredWillingness to represent HDR on ACI 350 CommitteeExperience with condition assessment and concrete repair desiredLocal candidates are preferredLI-SM1Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in EngineeringA minimum of 20 years of experienceRequires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.Extensive experience in project executionProficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard design software.  Must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projectAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
