The Principal Solution Design Architect is a cross-functional implementation consultant responsible for supporting the implementation team in designing cohesive, scalable, and sustainable global HR technology solutions across HCM, Talent, Payroll, and Workforce Management functions. This role serves as the single point of accountability to support and ensure a unified end-to-end solution design, with alignment across functional domains, countries, data models, integrations, and program milestones.
To Thrive in this role, you must have strong foundational process and functional knowledge across HR systems, deep understanding of data and integrations, and the ability to orchestrate global solution design decisions that balance standardization with local requirements. The Solution Design Architect partners closely with ADP's implementation resources and the client's stakeholders to ensure the solution works holistically--not just within individual modules or geographies.

What you can expect on a typical day:
Global Solution Design & Ownership Own the end-to-end global solution design across HCM, Talent, Payroll, and Time, ensuring cohesion across domains and countries
Design solutions that are globally consistent, locally compliant, and operationally sustainable
Translate business strategy, operating models, and workforce needs into scalable system design principles
Act as the design authority, identifying cross-domain impacts and resolving design conflicts Cross-Domain & Data Integration Leadership Ensure consistent data models, master data governance, and data flows across all HR systems
Partner with IT and integration teams to define inbound and outbound integration strategies
Identify and mitigate downstream impacts of design decisions on payroll accuracy, reporting, analytics, security, and compliance
Ensure solution design supports future extensibility, acquisitions, and regulatory change Program & Implementation Leadership Serve as a senior program leader within large-scale HR implementations
Drive design governance, decision frameworks, and design documentation
Ensure solution design decisions align with program timelines, dependencies, and risks
Proactively identify tradeoffs and present clear, data-backed recommendations to client stakeholders and implementation resources
Maintain alignment between functional teams, vendors, system integrators, and internal stakeholders Stakeholder Engagement Partner with client's HR, IT, Payroll, Finance, and Legal teams
Facilitate structured design discussions with key stakeholders and practitioners
Guide stakeholders away from isolated or localized design decisions that negatively impact the global solution
Clearly articulate "why" behind design decisions to build understanding and adoption Governance, Risk & Sustainability Establish and enforce solution design standards, principles, and guardrails
Ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements across geographies
Design with post-go-live operability in mind, including support models, change management, and ongoing enhancements
Contribute to long-term HR technology roadmaps beyond initial implementation
Partner with Product Development on product needs, seeing them through to implementation Team Development and Mentorship Actively mentor and coach Solution Design Architects and Senior Solution Design Architects
Shadow or support critical client engagements, provide feedback and support to mentees
Act as an escalation point for design conflicts or ambiguities. Lead resolution of novel or ambiguous client challenges, where no standard solution exists
Lead internal forums and design councils and work to continuously improve existing tools and resources TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE: (Required Qualifications) A minimum of 10 years of experience in HCM consulting, service, implementation, HR transformation, or enterprise solution design
Strong exposure to HCM platforms (e.g., Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, UKG, ADP, or similar)
Demonstrated experience designing solutions across multiple HR domains, including:
o Core HCM
o Talent (Recruiting, Performance, Learning, Succession)
o Payroll and/or Time & Attendance
Experience working with complex data models and system integrations
Strong solution design mindset--able to think end-to-end across people, process, data, and technology
Excellent program and dependency management skills
Ability to synthesize complex inputs and present clear, executive-ready recommendations
Strong facilitation skills with senior leaders and stakeholders
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and making informed design decisions
Travel: May be required up to 25% (dependent on business needs) A college degree is great but not required. What's more important is having the skills to do the job. Other acceptable experiences could include: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
