Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer (RA) to join our team of talented and diverse professionals. This role, based in Huntsville, AL, or Colorado Springs, CO., is crucial in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not offer relocation support and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is an essential part of the Missile Defense System. It provides a vital operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, delivering an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a crucial element of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.
This position is for a Principal Software Engineer on the C2BMC program. The selected candidate will be responsible for software development in Java for a Regional Applications team in Huntsville (Battle Management, System-Arch, or Track Server). Working with minimal supervision, provides specialized expertise across multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related fields, application implications, and customer areas. Responsible for conducting in-depth analysis and providing technical support for systems software products, including resolving complex problems, designing, developing, testing, integrating operationally, and supporting users.

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience, or a PhD and 1 year of related experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degreeAbility and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needsApplicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to startCandidates with an active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) are strongly preferred at the time of application. If such certification is not held, it must be obtained within 40 days of the start date. The selected candidate will be responsible for securing and maintaining their DoD 8140 certification on their own personal time and at their own expense. Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $158,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
