As a Principal Research Engineer, you will perform routine engineering investigations in support of current research or product development efforts using engineering software analysis tools, prepare design sketches or drawings, assist with the design, development, and evaluation of prototype medical devices and perform other duties. 

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Prepare design sketches or drawings for components, sub-assemblies, processes or equipment using CAD or 3-D solid modeling software.  

Assist with the design, development, and evaluation of prototype medical devices, equipment, and software. Assists with preparation and evaluation of test protocols and test specimens.  

Prepare charts, graphs and other documentation in support of articles for publication, project reports and grant applications. 

Perform independent analysis, investigation, and planning of specific engineering criteria, characteristics and features to meet assignment goals. 

Assume responsibility for the planning, organizing, directing and coordinating of a wide variety of complex program initiatives. 

Conduct continuing studies and analyses to determine the feasibility of various advanced engineering approaches to define concepts and criteria for further programs or to resolve major problems in current programs. 

Resolve technical problems requiring the use of advanced theories, concepts and principles. 

Lead in the development of prototypes, medical devices, equipment or software. 

Assign components of the project initiatives to other engineers, technicians and designers and oversee the work. 

Collaborate with other engineers/investigators on major changes in project initiatives as they relate to other assignments, funds and priorities. 

Prepare cost estimates and monitor expenditures. 

Provide recommendations on the purchase of new equipment.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor of Science in biomedical, mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field and six years of directly related experience 

OR Master’s degree and four years of experience  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Advanced degree 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information

Ability to distinguish color

Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment

Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
