What you’ll do

The Merchandising Allocations organization is responsible for the solutions that enable the many TJX divisions to ensure the right stores receive the right merchandise at the right time. These solutions contain the proprietary logic that drives the TJX “treasure hunt”. The Allocations team oversees a large and complex legacy solution landscape undergoing major modernization effort. The modernization scope includes 70 legacy applications reimagined into 10 products, collectively called the Global Store Allocation System (GSAS), that will reside in the Microsoft Azure cloud.

The Principal Release Train Engineer is a leadership role within the Allocations Solution Delivery Team, which consists of 15+ teams divided into 2 ARTs. We seek a Principal Release Train Engineer with solid experience as an RTE for an ART made up of Scrum and/or Kanban Teams, using the SAFe methodology/framework. Organization, interpersonal skills, and collaboration within and across teams are essential for this position.

As a Principal Release Train Engineer, you act as a servant leader to both ARTs, the RTEs, Scrum Masters and the Agile/Scrum teams to ensure the teams meet their Sprint Goals and PI Objectives. You’ll participate in PI Planning, ART ceremonies, issue resolution, remove blockers, and coaching the team in SAFe best practices. Communication and collaboration are a must in this role as you work with a wide set of stakeholders, including RTEs, Product Managers, Engineering Managers, external teams, and business stakeholders.

In addition to traditional RTE activities, the Principal Release Train Engineer will be responsible for the budgeting process (ensuring financial deadlines are met and tracking spreadsheets are up to date), workforce planning for current/future needs, and day-to-day vendor management.

Key Responsibilities

Drive for Results: Oversee the delivery of the two Allocations ARTs, including SAFe best practices, and PI over PI delivery; Lead all things Allocations budget management, including IT Finance partnership, submissions, and driving partnership with peers throughout the Fiscal Year Planning process; Drive vendor management including SOW and roster management

Paradoxical and Agile Thinking: Manage Allocations team Continuous Improvement efforts with clear problem identification and measurable improvements; Own ART-wide metrics tracking, interpretation, and communication

Acts with Integrity and Builds Trust and Deep Listening & Inquiry: Act as Servant Leader for Allocations ARTs by ensuring all teams have what’s necessary to be successful; Partner with peers and other RTEs to remove blocking issues; Execute ART-wide communication plans

Developing Talent and Effective Teams: Lead and coach the Allocations RTE, Scrum Master, and Project Analyst team; Guide Associate career development; Maintain long term team workforce plan

Informal Influencing and Building Networks: Partner with AVPs and Allocations Leadership team (peers) to lead a 150+ person Allocations team; Ensure alignment of goals and delivery remain visible; Maintain relationships with key IT stakeholders outside of the Merchandising team

Leading with Vision and Strategy: Partner with Manager of Product Management + AVPs to understand Allocations Modernization goals and drivers; Drive long term budget and labor forecasting for Allocations Modernization effort

This position has a starting salary range of $138,400.00 to $179,900.00 per year. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.
