Principal Product Manager Tech - Device OS, Amazon Core Device Software
Description The Amazon Devices business is an inventive research and development organization that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. The business was created out of Lab126 in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. THE ROLE We are seeking a highly experienced and technical Principal Product Manager - Core OS to join our Device OS team. This is a senior level position that will help bring an innovative OS vision to life; leading from concept through to operational delivery and scale across our growing portfolio of products which includes Android, Linux, and other embedded systems. This role is both deeply technical and also strategic, becoming our de-facto product expert focused on the core of our OS, the low level platform system stack on which all other innovation and experiences are built on . Because of this focus, this position also owns early customer engagement, solution investigations, senior leadership decision support and even critical path triage. This position must continuously balance customer outcomes, partner needs, engineering support, and pragmatic investment to meet the objectives of the broader Amazon Devices business. As a successful candidate in this role, you will bring an expertise in development and deployment of operating systems, working with embedded systems, and has a proven track record of leading complex technical products for technical customers including Amazon's device programs. You will also work across all levels of the organization including business executives, distinguished engineers, software developers, finance, and more. You will conduct investigations, conceive strategy, drive closure on decisions, own escalations, and most importantly... you will convey all of this in clear and written narratives or documents consistent with Amazon’s culture. You will be an education and communication bridge, thoughtfully conveying the right information for the right audiences to maximize shared understanding. All of this will be based on your current and ongoing development of expertise in this space, becoming a subject matter expert that can promote, defend, and merge the deeply technical concepts with their corresponding business and customer impact. This expertise includes (but is not limited to) the following areas of foundational OS functions: * Hardware abstraction * Resource management, system performance, and device health * File systems and storage * Networking and connectivity * Kernel, process, memory, and device management * System reliability and security Key job responsibilities • Lead the strategy and delivery of key initiatives that shape the future of Amazon's devices and the operating systems on which those devices are built • Engage directly with customers, both internal and external, to validate market research, deeply understand customer feedback, and create a data-driven story to inform our product decisions • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, set goals, and deliver high-impact outcomes and improvements for our customers • Work closely with engineering teams and customers to define a vision, prioritize features, author requirements, and clarify development for delivering our core system stack capabilities across all our supported OS products • Develop and maintain detailed product requirements documents and user stories • Ensure successful implementation of OS products and make hard, but rationalized trade-off decisions by working closely with device program and partner teams throughout the development process • Identify operational constraints in our build, bring-up, and deployment processes and develop solutions that accelerate our time to market or increase our ability to scale • Communicate product plans, milestones, and results to senior leadership and stakeholders • Triage customer feedback, issues, and take ownership of high impact product escalations • Mentor and guide other product managers on the team Basic Qualifications - 8+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience - Bachelor's degree - Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product - Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition - Experience with end to end product delivery - Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product - Experience technical product management Preferred Qualifications - Experience working directly with Engineers on product enhancements - Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement - Embedded systems experience Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $161,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
