Job Description:
**Job Overview**
TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.
Essential Functions
• Defines, coordinates, and drives scouting and development of stamping simulation methods to meet first-time-design-right requirements for tooling, lead frames and contacts at single-digit micron tolerances.
• Applies mastery with specific stamping simulation software like Simufact, AutoForm, PAM STAMP, DEFORM, or similar tools to develop simulation solutions, interpret/communicate results correctly, evaluate part manufacturability, recommend design modifications and optimizing tooling design and stamping process conditions.
• Applies mastery on establishing stamping simulation validation and calibration (fracture modeling), new method development and process improvements, and derives key insights about the process.
• Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation.
• Creates relationships with internal/external innovators and influencers on simulation precision stamping.
• Creates or controls the process design standard for stamping simulation methods used by other engineers (e.g. technology transfer to end users).
• Contributes to the manufacturing technology development roadmap of the AMP team.
• Contributes to technology and product decisions, driving innovation and execution to increase competitiveness.
• Acts as the binding element between key cross-functional teams (AMP, AST, ADT, PDE, MPDE, CPT)*, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of these critical interfaces.
• Documents all related processes in applicable TE systems, and maintain adherence to all appropriate specifications, regulatory and customer requirements
• Supports supply chain to verify related suppliers’ compliance and capability.
• Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment, performing work without appreciable direction.
• Drives results primarily through collaboration and influence, not through direct reporting relationships.
• Builds a culture of agile adapting that responds to environmental changes.
• Provides training and guidance to die designers and stamping engineers in the organization to reach advanced skill levels in stamping simulation.
• May lead or guide a small team of professionals and mentors and coaches other engineers.
• Provides measurable input to the objectives and goals of the department in support of the function and business unit strategies.
**What your background should look like:**
• Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical Engineering or related) with 12+ years of experience required, or Masters with 10+ years of experience, or PHD level with 6+ years of experience.
• Expertise in stamping simulation including blanking, bending, forming, drawing, progressive stations, die stress analysis.
• Master-level knowledge and understanding of fundamentals of metals for stamping, tool design, calibrated fracture models, and precision stamping processes.
• Mastery in stamping simulation software like Simufact, AutoForm, PAM STAMP, DEFORM, or similar tools.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software for creating and manipulating complex models used in simulation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze simulation results, troubleshooting issues, and identify solutions for complex stamping challenges.
• Deep knowledge of quality tools (FMEA, Six Sigma, DOE, 8D/Continuous Improvement).
• Fluent in English (read, write, and speak).
• Experience with single-digit micron tolerances for electrical connectors and sockets is a plus!
• Based in China-Shanghai and willingness to travel up to 25% average.
