**Job Overview**
Lead a team of writers in the production of high-quality, strategic communication materials and programmes for specified service areas or locations. Manage day-to-day workflow within a writing group, ensuring efficient, profitable and timely resourcing and delivery of project work. Contribute to the development of a strong, multi-skilled Medical Writing or Copywriting department.
**Essential Functions**
• Manage staff in the relevant writing department in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable regulations.
• Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance and guiding professional development, addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems.
• Accountable for overall performance and quality of assigned services, closely monitoring profitability and proactively initiating actions to maximize this. Perform a quality control (QC) review across all content (copy and creative) produced by the delivery teams, especially writers, with excellent attention to detail. Ensure appropriate in terms of compliance, accuracy and interpretation, messaging, structure/flow and readability, appropriateness for the audience.
• Ensure materials produced by the team are completed to a high standard, on time and within budget, in accordance with the needs and objectives of the client, target audience and delivery medium, keeping relevant parties aware of the status of project activities.
• May contribute to writing for projects, especially drafting content for complex or unusual items.
• Work with Head of Department and broader project teams in the planning, budgeting, forecasting and allocation of writing staff for existing and new business.
• Lead on project specifications and cost estimates, working closely with project teams.
• Link in with IQVIA service offerings where appropriate to ensure the most successful solutions for clients.
• Lead meetings with relevant stakeholders, presenting communications principles and/or scientific/clinical concepts, and facilitating discussions as required.
• Provide counsel, expertise and strategic advice as communications and/or scientific/therapeutic subject matter expert (SME), to guide the development of high quality communications solutions.
• Cultivate strong, long-term working relationships with internal and external key decision-makers.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness and provide strategic input for new business proposals and RFIs/RFPs, maximizing business opportunities with both existing and new clients and contributing to the development of new solutions and services.
• Diligently follow all company standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as adhere to industry regulations, departmental guidance and quality control measures to meet industry standards and client expectations. Monitor and ensure compliance within the team.
**Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:**
• High School Diploma or equivalent Scientific or Medical subject, or Communications / Marketing preferred Req
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant writing experience with at least 2 years’ supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Strong computer skills, including MS office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Internet
• Familiarity with research tools and approaches, such as reference management/publication planning databases
• Proven ability to manage, coach and train a team
• Extensive experience in medical writing, reviewing and resource planning
• Demonstrable therapy area expertise
• Ability to monitor team outputs, ensuring all written materials are of high scientific quality and meet client strategic objectives
• In-depth knowledge of medical communications business objectives, products and operating procedures
• Extensive experience with a variety of medical communications solutions for a range of audiences, for example publication planning, symposium and exhibition materials, educational and training aids, pitch presentations and promotional materials
• Proven ability to manage large medical communications programmes
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritise work effectively
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, clients and suppliers
• Excellent awareness of current industry code of practice guidelines and their implications
• Commercial focus and budgetary awareness
• Excellent presentation skills
