The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support. The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer – Interconnects Section Lead, located in Tewksbury, MA. The Interconnects Section Leader is responsible for management of the engineering staff supporting design and development of the Patriot BMC4I shelters cables, harnesses and wiring including obsolescence upgrades and supplier support. They and their direct reports will support the design, vendor support, and sustainment of the existing equipment cabling. The individual will support and lead multi-disciplined engineering teams and provide interconnect solutions and services across all program phases including proposal development. Areas of focus can encompass the development of next generation Patriot BMC4I shelters, transition to production, product support, vendor oversight, and field upgrades.
This is an onsite role.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Provide guidance on Raytheon expectations for Interconnects design rigor, level of TDP & VICD documentation required.Represent Interconnects section in PDR, CDR, including ensuring design is manufacturable for new cable and harness designs.Mentor and train the new engineers by providing technical guidance and project support throughout the product life cycle.Work with shelter production team, suppliers and Raytheon subject matter experts as required to resolve any design and production issues.Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop robust interconnect design solutions and resolve technical challenges.Participate in design peer reviews and Form Fit Function (FFF) checks as SME and individual contributor.Experience with leading a team for Drawing generation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation.Meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.Lead small to mid-sized cross functional teams as a technical lead through all phases of development from proposal generation, program start up, requirements allocation, EACs, EV, preliminary and detailed design development, and productionBasic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical degree.8 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with minimum four (4) years designing and developing cables and harnesses, preferably for use in Military environments.Experience leading engineering teams with cost and schedule responsibility.Experience designing cables, harnesses and connectors, including signal, power, Radio Frequency (FR) and Fiber Optic, for defense or commercial systemsExperience in cable and harness design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes.Experience with managing engineering budgets with Earned Value Management (EVMS), Estimate at Complete (EAC) process, supporting/leading proposals and Risk & Opportunity Management.The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.Preferred Qualifications:
Mechanical design experience, including concept definition through detailed design and transition to production and production support.Experience in supporting or leading proposals.Familiarity with USG gate review process, having preferably been a previous hardware lead who participated in reviewsExperience with program startup activities (Gate 5)Experience with Risk & Opportunity Management.Ability to work collaboratively in an Integrated Product Team environment, interfacing with multiple Engineering disciplines, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, IPT Leadership, Program Managers, and Customers.Engineering project management experience with schedule and budget responsibility.Solid understanding of configuration management practicesExcellent communication, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Working knowledge of Military Specifications for cables and harnesses.Working knowledge or experience with air defense systems, missiles.Advanced problem-solving skills.Experience with cable and harness design for Patriot Air Defense SystemsProficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Project)Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.Ability to generate Root Cause Corrective Action summaries and present it to program leadership.Experience with generation of technical while papers.Able to work well with people and achieve results with a minimum of conflicts and within schedule.Team leadership: experience leading a multi-disciplined, technical team with the ability to develop, empower, motivate and monitor the team.Proven ability to lead technical solutions to complex user requirements.What We Offer:

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
