About the Role

Join the Digital Automotive Manufacturing Team to implement the HARMAN Future Digital Factory. Be an active part of a global team to develop and improve our state-of-the-art hybrid Industry 4.0 platform in cooperation with local and global Business and Operations teams.

The Principal IIoT Software Engineer is working within the DigITal Automotive Manufacturing team, interacting with global business and IT teams. You will be widely recognized as a technical lead expert within the division.

The primary scope is to drive the changes, research, develop, and apply advanced technologies in order to design the software and system architecture of global, future-proof, enterprise-grade solutions and systems with an eye on cost awareness, supportability, scalability, sustainability, customer-requirements, market trends, compliance, and security.

You will also oversee the quality work of senior software developers and solution architects, drive the changes by engaging various stakeholders, consult with other principals and fellows, conduct research on new technologies and concepts, and evaluate possible future Industry 4 systems and solutions.

What You Will Do

Act as a global Technical Lead for HARMANs Industry 4 solutions.

Align with Architecture team for creating a global consistent architecture in the complex Industry 4 landscape with considering horizontal and vertical integrations and dependencies with other enterprise systems like ERP, MES, etc. as well as machine and shopfloor integration.

Be a point of contact for the Digital peer groups for integration and interaction.

Evaluate and identify industry trends and technical solutions, prepare and present assessments to the leadership for decision making.

Interact with your Business and Operations counterparts to design and align the best solution.

Lead R&D initiatives on a global level.

Research, develop, and apply advanced technologies to design the software- and system architecture of global, future-proof, enterprise-grade solutions and systems with an eye on cost awareness, supportability, scalability, sustainability, customer-requirements, market trends, compliance, and security.

Research and establish technologies and frameworks to build prototypes for Industry 4.0 (shopfloor connectivity, Big Data, Machine Learning, Shopfloor Edge, Analytics and related technologies) and future strategic divisional programs.

Align with Enterprise Architecture team on the target architecture for systems and solutions.

Review and evaluate project requests to assess feasibility, time and cost.

Work with the Program Manager and the Project Managers to oversee software implementation projects.

Proactively coach technical talents in systems and technology.

Support the global team in troubleshooting the Digital Factory platform on level 3.

What You Need to Be Successful

Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field or relevant experience.

10+ years of work experience in

enterprise level Software Development (Object Oriented).

leading customer-facing, strategic and application development projects.

designing the architecture of enterprise level global systems and landscapes with focus on requirements, scalability, high availability and economic factors.

5+ years experience and deep understanding of

the Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies with focus on Enterprise Architecture.

cloud services and technology like MS Azure, AWS and the knowledge of the relevant components for Industrial IoT.

working with and managing Big Data (time series and structured).

Deep understanding of manufacturing process analysis, design and implementation.

Proven ability to lead research activities independently and proactively drive technology opportunities.

Proven track record

as advisor around product and project technical decisions.

of making effective decisions on project issues, and escalation for solution of time sensitive issues.

of presenting solution proposals to critical stakeholders, including the upper management and Harman’s customers.

of analyzing use cases and choosing the right technologies for implementation.

Expert understanding of data transport, exchange protocols and secure transportation. 

Highly experienced in integrating systems for optimized end to end processes. 

Solid knowledge of IT Infrastructure and High Availability concepts in an Enterprise Environment. 

Proven ability and persistence to systematically analyze and resolve complex problems. 

Global mindset, teamwork in a multi-location team, enterprise approach.

Problem-solving mindset.

Excellent English language skills (professional working proficiency).

Bonus Points if You Have

Experience in using the most common protocols used in the industry (OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus).

Experience in databases, especially InfluxDB, PostgreSQL and Oracle.

Experience in using Enterprise Message Queues.
