The Quantum Systems team is seeking a **Principal Engineering Planning Coordinator** to drive bottoms-up planning and execution across mechanical and cryogenic engineering for a large-scale quantum computer. You’ll define workstreams, set milestones, manage vendor execution, and create clear, reliable status visibility across our hardware portfolio.

**Responsibilities**
+ Lead bottoms-up planning with mechanical and cryogenic leads; convert design intents into workstreams, milestones, budgets, and risked schedules
+ Build integrated plans spanning cryogenic packaging, shielding, dilution refrigerator subsystems, cabling/wiring, and filtering
+ Maintain a single source of truth for scope, dependencies, interfaces, and handoffs
+ Coordinate cryogenic packaging for quantum devices and ensure thermalization down the stack
+ Own vendor strategy, SOWs, delivery schedules for cryogenic equipment, fabrication, machining, and test services
+ Stand up crisp dashboards for schedule, cost, risks, and mitigations; deliver executive-ready weekly snapshots
+ Identify bottlenecks early and drive resolution

**Qualifications**
**Required/Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics, or related field AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, or product development
+ OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics, or related field AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, or product development
+ OR Doctorate Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics, or related field AND 3+ year(s) experience in engineering, product/technical program management, or product development
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 5+ years of experience in program or project management within complex technical engineering environments.
+ 5+ years of experience with mechanical, cryogenic, or quantum systems engineering domains.
**Other Requirements:**
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
+ Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide either proof of their country of citizenship or proof of their U.S. permanent residency or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. + Ability to work in an "AI first" environment using modern AI tools to accelerate discovery through hardware development.
+ Familiarity with designing and building AI agents/copilots that assist with experiment setup, log triage, measurement report generation, protocol templating, and knowledge retrieval (e.g. instrument manuals, design docs).
**Additional or** **Preferred** **Qualifications**
+ Background in cryogenic systems or ultra-low temperature physics.
+ Track record of vendor management and cross-functional coordination.
+ Proven ability to define and manage workstreams, milestones, and complex multi-team schedules.
+ Communication skills and ability to coordinate across engineering, vendors, and leadership teams.
+ Experience deploying and scaling Atlassian Confluence in engineering organizations.
+ Proficiency with program management tools.
Quantum Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
